Couldn't get into this one....

I thought since I read Mine that I might like this one... not so. The male &female lead lost me so early one that there was no way for them to get me back.

This book wasn't a masterpiece but I thoroughly enjoyed it because of the taboo themes and elements that followed. I enjoyed how realistic the reaction of the main character to being kidnapped was the most identifying factor of a fanfic piece is where the main female character acts brave, unaffected and sarcastic during a traumatic event that undermines the seriousness of it.

Oh Gav you absolute dark beauty… you have stolen my heart!
Don’t even know what to tell you other than that. I mean sure I could tell you loads but, then you wouldn’t get to experience this book that same way I did.
Will this be to everyone’s taste? Hell no. For me though it was pure brilliance in the darkness. I loved every single moment, loved Gav, obviously, loved Kat just as much, loved how their story played out. Loved everything.
Now I need to add this author to my need to read more from list!

It’s edgy, and filled with the forbidden. Forbidden? You can’t get much more forbidden then falling in love with a serial killer, can you?

Ok book. It’s a short read but still took me a week to get through because I just wasn’t drawn to pick it up and read. Thankfully it is a stand-alone though so I don’t feel like I have to continue on with the series.

*Warning: This review is going to be a rant more then a normal review, you have been warned*

Oh my God finally this monstrosity is over. I really, really, really, hate this book and everything about it and had to skim to see how it ended. The storyline is totally something I would like but the execution was so far left field of what I thought it would be that I didn’t enjoy it at all. I thought this was going to be an in depth story about the thought process of a psychopath and how they think, act, and why they do what they do. But this story ended up being about a broken boy who needed a woman to change him. Sound familiar? It’s like all the other bad romance novels with no depth.

Even the explanations of why Gav was the way he was, were just not good enough for me. There is a lot more that goes into being a serial killer or a psychopath then just being abused as a child or being unhappy with your life. The amount of emotional and psychological aspects to Gavs character were just too underdeveloped and unexplored, it just didn’t make sense for him to do what he did. Basically what I gathered from Gav was he killed because his “shadow” made him do it.

While this is definitely a interesting idea, since there is no explanation of what the shadow is or if it is an actual being like a demon or just a feeling or whatever it just didn’t make any sense. Also there is no explanation as to why he started killing in the first place. Just that he was abused. Does he kill to have control? Does he kill because he likes how it feels? Did he start small by killing animals first? What was his first kill? There are so many areas to explore here and none of it is touched. So basically Gav is a serial killer in order to sound dangerous to the reader. Because dangerous is sexy right? Yah it is but only when there is a reason for the danger and acting scary one minute and crying the next isn’t sexy just very confusing.

Most serial killers in real life are actually pretty intelligent and lack human emotion. But Gav is too soft for that. Also Gav only kills “bad guys.” So he is like a serial killer batman. Oh boy this book is thick with the cheese I tell you.

Kat also bothered me. Lately I keep finding authors using things like making their main character read a lot or being a librarian or a page in a library in order to, I don’t know, make them relatable to us readers? Why not focus on the character development of the character in order to make them more relatable? Kat also had no depth. She was just a girl bored and needing a man to think she was special. Half the things she did…actually wait…all the things she did in this novel just didn’t make sense to the situations she was actually in. How she acted did not match up to someone who has anxiety.

Oh and another thing…the depiction of anxiety in this novel was completely off. Anxiety is more then just freaking out and having panic attacks. That is definitely part of it but not everything. There is soooo much more that goes into having those kind of emotions and not everyone who has anxiety is medicated either. And for someone like Kat stand up to a serial killer and find him attractive half the time, it just didn’t match up with the thinking process of someone with anxiety. She panics about accidently peeing in the bed but then she doesn’t panic when she is sitting next to Gav.

Oh and on that note, the sex. Oh boy. When Gav and her get sexual its like they both become different characters. Gav is no longer this evil person and Kat is just so into it she forgets to freak out about the fact that this guy kills people. And then she is all "I love you I need you."

I could go on and on about all the things wrong with this book but that would take me all night and I have better things to do. It is like Fifty Shades of Serial Killer. So I will leave you with this: If you like erotica with no substance and no real plot or point, then this is for you. This didn’t feel dark to me. It had the potential to be dark but it really was just about a sad angry boy who killed people because his evil “shadow” made him do it. That being said, I recommend this to no one.
