The way Gav was written was strange like a Wattpad novel.

A disturbing premise from the onset, which had me beginning the novel with trepidation, but this was soon assuaged. The writing was mature, smooth and thrilling, the characters were fascinatingly and satisfactorily three-dimensional and the heroine matched, if not exceeded, Gav when it came to psychological complexity. Sympathy was evoked where it shouldn't have been, and I found myself wishing Gav and Kat a happily ever after, despite the atrocious things he'd done. Bravo to the author.

SPOILERS FOR LIKE 20% OF THE BOOK (BUT DONT WORRY, THERES BASICALLY NO PLOT UP TILL THERE)

There are those who enjoyed this book (more power to you, I'm not against anyone's preference) and then there's me.

I had to DNF this book for major concerning reasons. Author if you're reading this, I do not doubt your writing skills or anything but sometimes ppl will need to take harsh advice.

So, follow me as I breakdown what my eyes just witnessed.

-First, were introduced to MC, Kat (which Gav won't stop calling kitten, like seriously, it's not sexy) who everyone makes a huge deal of being "Boring"

-Kat kisses Gavin after being asked to by her bestie (forgot her name, whatever) she claims she has to kiss him or bestie will be mad but then she totally lies about kissing him which leaves me to wonder, WHAT WAS THE POINT OF KISSING HIM IF YOU WERE GOING TO LIE.

-This girl literally follows him all over just to return a paper, she literally tresspases into his manor or whatever. Just to return a fricking paper 🤨

-She finds out Gav is a killer and he holds her hostage.

now this are places I had serious issues with cause it paints Gav in a very predatory manner (I know some of you will say he isn't a predator and didnt rape her but just follow me for a second)

-in an effort to stitch up a palm injury kat got when she tried to escape (which she should) HE TOOK OFF ALL HER CLOTHES WHILE SHE SLEPT!🤨 (Sus level +10)

-Kat, who I'm sure is suffering from serious Stockholm syndrome, fantasies about a guy she just watched murder.

-Gav proceeds tie Kat up and go to the bar. He comes back to find a thirsty kat and he bargains giving her water for a kiss. Now some may find this steamy but it's very concerning.

Even if Kat wanted to kiss him, he doesn't know that so he's essentially taking a kiss without consent. And even after he kisses her, he goes further, pinning her to the wall and kissing her body (sus level +1000)

Writing dark romance is difficult, the romance has to be gritty but at the same time romantic. And this fails.

Coming from a guy, this was predatory and enables some creepy men (and women) to do weird things like stalking and predation.

And I know some of y'all will say it's not that deep but I think their's a reason why we say 'life imitates art' and not the other way round

All in all, I won't be reading further unless I find drive or just pure boredom. I hate rating books one star cause I know how much authors sweat to make a living out of writing but I just feel this was a disappointment. Don't let my review discourage anyone though, I didn't finish the book so you can and tell me what you thought.

Decent Kidnapping/Captive book.

Kidnapping, murder, bondage, attempted suicide, M/F, MFC is over 21.

Kat should not have followed Gav home. If she had left him alone, she never would have ended up as a prisoner in his basement.

This one is dark and there are a lot of triggers but it's so good. Aubrey Dark did a great job of developing the characters slowly, just enough each chapter to keep you hooked. Yes, I spent a good deal of time telling Kat to keep driving! or don't touch that! I even found myself rooting for Gav! And the ending was satisfying.

I'm not normally a dark romance reader but this was good and I highly recommend it...you know, if dark romances don't trigger you.

I was quite surprised with this one. I enjoyed it more than I thought I was going to. Pleasantly surprised.
