I'm loosing interest the longer the saga drags on. The plot is so convoluted that the characters become shallower and not deeper as the years roll by.

I recieved an ARC of this book from Netgalley. I wish I had realized that it was the third book in a series before beginning it. That being said, I was still able to follow the narrative and the writing was visual and flowing. As a fan of Japanese stories (legends, myths and otherwize), I very much enjoyed this book and look forward to reading the other 3 books in the series (the 2 previous and 1 following).

The first book was betrayal; the second, brokenness. This book is waiting, seclusion, and slow growth, and an excellent continuation of the series

This was fantastic continuation of this series. I love the setting, the characters are wonderfully written and complex, and the writing is great. It did take me a little while to get into, as I should have reread the first book to give myself a refresher but I still loved this book so much. I highly recommend this book/series.

Oh man, oh man, it's finally all coming together. I am so terribly excited for the final book.

Lord of the Darkwood seemed to be the book where the ends were being placed in order to weave together the epic finale of the Tale of Shikanoko. The relationships between the characters had solidified. It was satisfying to watch some villains go down, some misunderstood characters meet unjust fates, and new forces of conflict springing among the world.
It might have been really easy to make all five of Lady Taros' demon children evil, but Hearn did a magnificent time humanizing them. I think the one thing that bothered me the most was how much talking and nonodescript periods of time had passed. But needless to say, the series overall is very well-organized and well-paced.
