SpoilerThe main character's willingness to do anything and believe anyone because she wanted friends so badly was infuriating. I guess I have been there done that at her age and into my 20s. Now, in my late 40s, almost 50 years old, seeing the gullibility, made me want to smack some sense into her! Wanted to tell her to grow a backbone! She had wonderful people around her already! But, maybe that'sthe more mature side of me speaking. The side of me that knows, some people won't change. Even as recent as last year and earlier this year I was too nice for my own good with one person but that last time, I immediately regretted it & within a few weeks, indirectly said for them to keep ignoring me and went back no contact. So, maybe my frustration was wanting to have a fictional character (anyone really) to avoid the things I've seen. As Maya Angelou said: "When people show you who they are, believe them the first time. But, I do plan on going onto book 2 to see if she grows a backbone in this book. This seems like the kind of book that would make a good show but I guess many may think shows like this have been overdone maybe.

When I started this series I didn't know how extensive the plot was going to get and how many hours I would waste reading the rest of the series. Although the writing may not have been very impressive, throwing myself wholeheartedly into a book series for the summer was worth the trouble. Whenever I finished a book I would think to myself, " this is horrible, why do I waste my time on this?". Without fail the next day I would checkout the next one and finish it in an hour. Overall and looking back I am glad I read it, just to be completely consumed in a books world is a special feeling, and although not the most sophisticated novels, these did succeed in keeping my interest.

Reread 3

I told you I had to read another in this series. But to be honest - I liked this one slightly better. Still only one star, but at least the main character wasn't so --- pretentious and evil.

First of all, I read this book A LONG time ago around when it first came out and I remember enjoying it. Apparently enough to pick up the entire series at a library book sale for $5 two or three years ago. It's been sitting in a pile in my closet forever and my mission this year is to de-clutter some books.

There are some interesting things about this book. The main character doesn't bother me too much. Thomas however is a nut job and I can't stand him so far. Don't be an idiot, Reed. We'll see how this all develops as I have 14 books left in the series to go and two prequels.

This is such an interesting book. The "mean girls" of high school in an extreme setting: everyone is stupid rich and they live like they are in college. The rest of the series gets a bit ridiculous, but this first story arc (the first four books or so) is good.

Switched up the YA series this time! Don’t worry I’m still reading The Clique. I loved the Private series I when I was younger. These are my comfort reads.

I remembered reading this series out of order while I was in high school and college. I wanted to give this series a second chance and purchased the entire series for my Kindle.

This book follows Reed Brennan as she moves into the sophomore dormitory at Easton Academy. She tries her hardest to get on the good side of the girls of the most exclusive dormitory known as Billings House while she falls in love with a senior named Thomas Pearson.

She realizes the depth of her issues as she tries to run from the issues her mother causes after her mother's motor vehicle accident. She tries to keep her secrets from the girls in Billings House as she wonders just how much she'd be willing to do in order to gain their approval.

I remember loving this series when I was first reading through it and remember feeling quite hooked on each of the books. This is still the case with the first book, at least. I'm glad that I was still hooked and hope the next book will give met he same excitement.

That being said, I don't like Reed very much. I feel like she really is a sheep and is doing too much to gain the approval of the Billings Girls. I find Noelle to be such a bitch but that's just me. I remember my high school's version of Noelle and it's not a good reminder.

I am definitely not a fan of the Billings Girls but I also feel that Reed is complicit in doing too much at the expense of her dignity. The fact that she turned her parents away from attending the parents' weekend says a lot about Reed and it's not a good thing.

I feel like her father is a victim of the Billings Girls and it makes me feel quite a bit of sympathy for him. I know her mother can be a bitch in her own right and I do feel sympathy for Reed wanting to leave the home because of her mother's actions but does she still have to treat her father like that?

I hate that Thomas is such an abusive young man and it makes me feel sympathy for Reed that she is making herself deal with that shit. Does she not have any self-respect? I know what you're going to say, though, and I do agree: she's a victim of domestic violence.

I will give her a break for that. It's a cycle that not a lot of people can break free from. It's awful and I can't remember what happens to them in the end. I guess we'll see if I ever finish this series, won't we?

If you're into YA books without open-door smut scenes, I'd recommend this book/series. I did enjoy it, even if it's not my normal vibe these days. I've been looking to open my boundaries a bit and this was part of that, I suppose. Yay?
