While I completely understand the appeal of this book—troubled characters, chemistry, bad boy with a heart of gold, etc.—I had issues with the believability and character development. Full review at wrapped up in books.

Echo and Noah have at least one thing in common: both come from broken families. Noah lost his parents in a house fire and his two younger brothers are with different foster parents. Echo's mother is mentally ill and her dad has moved on with his young wife who is pregnant. Though they seem to be opposites in every other respect, Echo and Noah are drawn to each other and share a passionate relationship.

But things are not always that easy, of course. Echo has her own psychological issues to work through before she can let someone really get to know her. Noah is fighting against authority to try to gain custody of his brothers, the most important things in his life. Can they get through against all the odds to truly love each other?

I had heard tons of positive reviews about this book before I started reading it. For the most part I enjoyed it, but I did have a few problems with both characters.

Echo has had intense things happen to her in the past, no doubt. But she became sullen and withdrawn instead of turning to her friends for help. I believe if she had at least tried to reach out, she would have found so many people willing to help her. I will probably catch flack for this opinion, but I think she made herself the victim too many times. I'm in no way downplaying what happened to her. But the way she treated her dad and stepmom made me want to slap her sometimes.

Noah is a little more likable, but I don't think he makes the best decisions. If he knows he wants to get his brothers back, why would he engage in the behaviors he does? The introduction of Echo into his life changes him some, thankfully.

The book also had the trope I hate the most,
Spoiler"I love you so I'm breaking up with your for your own good." GEEEZ I'm tired of seeing this in YA lit. It always has the opposite effect.

So what did I like? Well, I'm glad this book addressed such serious topics as foster care, mental illness, and losing someone in the military. I think it could have been achieved with a lot less cussing and drug use, though.

I also liked the ending. Things were not exactly perfect but everyone was working their way towards improvement. And really, that's all we can hope for in life.

Waouh... !

This book was okay. It had good bits and rubbish bits. I hated the role of the friends they acted stupid and took on ridiculous roles.

However I enjoyed the love story, to an extent, but I did lose steam half way through the book. I wont be carrying on with the other books.

I didnt hate this book but i didnt love it either.

Vale, hace un tiempo que leí "Pushing The Limits"...

Noah y Echo enamoran.

Bello. También lo recomiendo.

Wow OMG this book was deep and beautiful. This book had hardships and love and lessons of real life situations. This book was amazing. I loved it. The author is incredible at capturing the issues and how the characters deal with them, how they grow and change for the better. How they learn to love and trust again. How they learn to live again after tragedy struck.

Plot: Echo Emerson went from popular chick and cheer leading captain to the school pariah after she shows up with scars on her arms and back and she doesn't remember how she got them. People who used to be her friends treat her like a freak and she wears long sleeves to hide the scars, she doesn't interact with others, and has withdrawn from everyone. In comes Noah a gorgeous guy who is a stoner and has had sex with almost every girl in school. He is trying to heal after his parents died in a fire and he and his brothers were thrown into foster care. Noah is about to graduate and is trying to win his brothers back as their guardian. Echo becomes Noah's tutor which later becomes much more. Their love grows and helps both of them heal from their ordeals. It's a beautifully tragic love story with a happy ending. I was riveting to the whole thing.

I loved the characters. Echo has been sheltered by her father after the attack and so has not lived much. Noah helps her live again for herself instead of for her dad. Mrs. Collins is my favorite character. She is both Noah's and Echo's therapist. She is fun, and quirky, and she truly cares. She is trust worthy and tries to help both of them in anyway she can and she does. She gets Noah to think about his future and Echo to remember what happened and to forgive her father.

This is one of my all time favorite books. I recommend this to everyone who loves a good romance with real live situation, issues, and not the fantasy. I recommend this for those who are trying to find themselves too. It touches on a lot of things that can help you. This book teaches you that its ok to be scared of life but don't let that stop you from living it to its fullest. Remember everyone has issues no one is perfect but everyone chooses how they decide o deal with them and live their lives. Great book.

I do not often read books that stray from paranormal or fantasy, but I bought a copy of this a year or so ago when it was on sale, thinking that after hearing so much about it and thinking the concept was interesting, it deserved a chance. I really enjoyed this book. It was simple and complex at the same time and I was drawn into the lives of the characters. Noah and Echo were adorable together and their relationship worked. I look forward to reading the rest of the series.

2.5 I can see why this would appeal to many teen readers. Not badly written, and very high on the angst/melodrama (not just divorce, but new stepmother & baby, mother with mental health issues, brother dead in the war, and situational amnesia, just to name the heroine's problems...) but not too far over the top to be embarrassing. The story kept me reading, but neither the characters nor their fairly predictable plot felt truly memorable.

Noah will be interesting to write about for my ChLA conference talk on masculinity in YA romance -- his words and his character don't seem to match up, serving more as a wish-fulfillment of a boy than a fully-rounded character.
