3.5. You really do care for the characters in this young adult book.
I just fell in LOVE with the book. And to make it simple,no words can actually express my love and other emotions for this book.I was literally laughing when the characters did.I cried when they cried.I loved Echo's and Noah's story so so much. The story was so realistic and at times, heartbreaking. It might sound a bit too much but I actually cried in the end.Literally.
I just lost myself in the story and fell in love with the characters.I felt things along with them.I'm not gonna go into many details because anyone who wants to read the book should just do it and not wait and start reading reviews.(That's what I do sometimes...but we can just say it never happened.)Echo's father is rich, but when her brother died something happened that Echo does not remember. She just woke up one day and found herself in a hospital, her arms covered in scars and no memory of what brought her there.Noah's the bad boy.He has kick ass friends,he smokes,he drinks. He does everything until he meets Echo.At first their relationship isn't that good. They both have problems.Noah thinks Echo is just a rich girl with no problems and Echo thinks that Noah is just the bad boy that wants to make her feel well...bad.But they're both wrong and when they finally realize it their attraction is too strong to deny. They've fell for each other. So where's the attraction going to lead them?

I loved this book.
Simple.
It made me *cry* multiple times. I felt invested in the characters, in how their stories would be resolved. I ached for Echo and Noah, together and apart. I ached for their families.
I've read nearly 125 books this year so far, and this was the first one that made me pause and think, "I should slow down and savour this because it's going to be over soon and I can't re-create reading it for the first time."
I've read other people's complaints about repetition, attitudes, etc., but I think that given that these are first person perspectives, we can call those things authentic to the specific narrator.
I really, really enjoyed this, and would recommend to fans of YA and/or contemporary romance.

Fans of Perfect Chemistry will love this one! I know I'm really into a book if it can make me cry, and this one did several times. It also made me laugh frequently, which earns even more bonus points.
Noah and Echo were both beautifully flawed. They had both been through a lot for being so young, and had the scars to prove it. I love how at the start, things seem very black and white in their lives, and the adults seem to be the bad guys. The book was full of ups and downs, and I like how there was a clear change in each of the characters as the story progressed. There were lessons learned and realizations made. And at the end we realized (as did the characters) that there was more to the story than what Echo and Noah could see.
I love a story that can pull off switching points of view. And this one definitely did! I had an ebook from NetGalley, and it failed to decipher where Noah ended and Echo began. It wasn't even separated into paragraphs. One sentence would be Noah, then it would jump right to Echo. Yet I still knew when the POV changed. I could easily tell the difference between the two and there was no confusion, because Noah and Echo each had distinct personalities.
I liked Echo. She was fiery and even though she had her weaknesses, she still had strength. And she was funny. The banter between her and Noah made me giggle, and some of Echo's terminology (like the Wizard of Oz references to her step-mother, or her 'mutant pterodactyls' instead of butterflies) were very amusing.
Noah was fabulous! He was kind of an ass at times, but he had his sweet moments, too. He had good intentions even if he had a funny way of showing it at times.
This book definitely tackled some tough issues. Divorce, loss, trauma, foster and step parents. Echo's suppressed memories made me crave answers. What happened?! It had to be some seriously bad shit for her mind to go on lockdown, right? And it was. I can't imagine going through even half of the crap that she did. Or what Noah did, for that matter.
I didn't love it quite as much as I hoped, but I still really enjoyed it and it pulled on my heart strings for sure. It was a heart wrenching and emotional book!

Picking up this book to read, I never thought I'd like it this much!
I'm a male, and ofcourse what I look in a book is alot of action, killing and stuff. But this wasn't the situation. It was a pleasant suprise, and I like suprises.
I think Katie McGarry did a wonderful job capturing the essence of the characters and the intense degree of the tragedy in their lives. Noah and Echo were drawn to one another, and seem to fit each other perfectly. I liked Noah's relationship with his younger brothers alot. It was quite touching the degree of loyalty and love that he felt for them.
Noah was such a lovely person.. regardless of his drug habit in the beginning, he would ofter push the limits of authority to get his way, but his goal always seemed honorable.
I found Echo a little weak, at times. She, like didn't have her own independence. Some of her choices depended on her friends' approvals. I was glad that towards the end of the book, she she finally came out of her shell, and thought on her own.
An overall emotionally touching and good, solid read. Great job mrs. Katie. Can't wait for Beth's story.

Oh wow .. I really liked this book ..
[a:Katie McGarry|4575371|Katie McGarry|http://d.gr-assets.com/authors/1305138891p2/4575371.jpg] you are one of the few authors who can make me bawl like a baby cry... and I did .. several times !
I just loved the story line, the characters.. I have to say one of my favorites was Mrs.Collins, I still don't understand how Echo or Noah could dislike her so much...
The only thing I would complain about is the ending... I would have loved an epilogue of 10 years after or something like that... I just know that after reading the last line of the book I turned the page expecting another chapter to come after..
But! All in all, I loved it! I was hooked!
I half expected the next one to be about Beth and Isaiah.. Little bit disappointing it isn't .. but I'm sure I'm gonna love it anyway!

Goodreads synopsis: No one knows what happened the night Echo Emerson went from popular girl with jock boyfriend to gossiped-about outsider with "freaky" scars on her arms. Even Echo can't remember the whole truth of that horrible night. All she knows is that she wants everything to go back to normal. But when Noah Hutchins, the smoking-hot, girl-using loner in the black leather jacket, explodes into her life with his tough attitude and surprising understanding, Echo's world shifts in ways she could never have imagined. They should have nothing in common. And with the secrets they both keep, being together is pretty much impossible.Yet the crazy attraction between them refuses to go away. And Echo has to ask herself just how far they can push the limits and what she'll risk for the one guy who might teach her how to love again...

This book is a romance, but at it's very core is a story about family, and the repercussions after they break down.
The story is told in first person by the two main characters; Echo and Noah. First things first, I (usually) HATE it when authors use strange names for their characters, as it can be quite distracting. HOWEVER, Echo's name choice was explained and addressed well by both Echo herself and other characters in the story.
I thoroughly enjoyed reading each different perspective and individual story arcs. Admittedly, I perhaps liked Noah a fraction more than Echo, because I admired his pure love for his little brothers and respect for Echo. His struggle hit more of a cord with me, admittedly making me cry (very rare!)
I liked the mystery aspect of Echo's story arc, as well as her snarky personality. Her portrayal as a bit of a doormat at the beginning, and her "friends" treatment of her made it a bit uncomfortable reading her story. I understand that the author is trying to show the negative effects of peer pressure, and that fake friends are not true friends (and that's great), but that's more a lesson for ages 7-15 not 18. Either that or myself and my peers were very mature when we were 18? That being said, Echo did grow in confidence and strength throughout the book, which I liked to see.
The romance was beautifully paced; from relative strangers, to friends, to flirtation and finally to love <3 Both characters supported each other, helping to overcome their individual issues.
Both Echo and Noah's individual arc resolutions were written almost perfectly. If I had one nit-pick it would be that Echo's story was resolved a bit too optimistically? As a couple, their story ended how I would have liked, but would have appreciated a flash forward 5+ years (I'm greedy).
All in all, a great book with great characters and issues addressed. I would definitely recommend!

18-19/06/2018 re-read.
Loved rereading this story about teenagers who have their very own set of issues that they where able to work through. I'd love to see this done as a movie as I think it deals with lots of issues that I think teenagers now-a-days would be able to relate too. Plus the romance was pure gold.
