Definitely not a feel good story. However it is an interesting story about a very disfunctional family and how each one responds to adversity. For those who like romance this one is better than most. This is a good read to understand the perspective of a child living in an abusive and addictive environment. The concept of including music was original and a pleasure. I love reading and I love music so combining them is as the author said: watching a movie.

This was a giveaway from the author in exchange for an honest review. I'm not really good at leaving reviews.
The story kept me entertained and angry at the same time. Characters in the story are a mix of likable and unlikable ones which makes it a good balance.

I can't believe that it actually took me so long to read this book. I downloaded it when it was free on Amazon. This book literally took me on a roller coaster ride.
We start with Harley and Jeremiah... The night that they come home from a basketball game and Harley gets kicked out of home. She kept saying something about secret getting out. (I seriously thought that her father was molesting her...) it turned out to be worse... the verbal and physical abuse... everything that her mom and Kat endured at the hands of a man that is suppose to be your protector and defender... I couldn't stand it. I was glad for Harley when she finally did leave that place...
I felt for her though... throughout her journey and everything that she was running from... I was mad that she kept running from Jeremiah knowing that he was what kept her grounded...
I hurt for her... cried with her... cried for her... my heart broke..
I was so excited when he finally gave her that ultimatum... I was PISSED that she would run... and then she wakes up that one night in New Mexico and comes to the conclusion that HE is IT!!!
I was literally doing a happy dance while my husband just stared at me like I was an idiot... I agree, every women should read this book...

Abso-friggin-lutely Amazing!

Okay! Let me start by being completely honest here. I picked this up months ago and I didn't read it right away. Now that I read it, I'm asking myself...what was I thinking?

This book was so powerful and so full of several emotions. I certainly did not expect it!

Brooklyn James deserves more than 5 stars for this beautifully written book. It's exquisite.

Harley and Miah's journey begins in a small town in Georgia, PA. She is a bit of a tomboy and they have been the bestest of friends since they were 4 years old. Throughout Harley's life, she has run from her family crap...abuse, alcoholism, and suicide. The struggles were tough. Jeremiah (Miah) has always been there for her.

All through this book, I cried, laughed and loved right along with Harley. Brooklyn James made you feel as though you really were wearing her mother's boots. It's truly an incredible journey about life and love...one that I will be recommending to many and venturing down again.

A little too much spelling it out at times.

Pretty good story about a woman overcoming an abusive home, and fighting her own feelings about the man who's always there when she needs him most. It felt a bit autobiographical with the names changed, which isn't necessarily a bad thing.

This was an excellent book. Very true to life, in fact at times I was wondering if this book was auto biographical. I am going to have to retread this at some point, as I found myself skimming through some of the memories to find out what was going to happen next.
