I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters, a new book boyfriend, hilarious dialogue, and a sweet, wonderful story. Emma Mills is definitely one of my favorite authors.

MY GOD. I LOVE THIS. THIS ONE IS MY CUP OF TEA.

I'm still buzzin by the way. So I probably write like a drunk girl. But here we go.

I love the dynamics. I love the writing. I love the characters. I love the friendship parts. I love the family parts. I love the mundane-but-important-things highlights. I love the slice-of-life part. And of course, I love the romance.

Claudia found the best people. Despite her having lowest self-esteem ever, I love how she's kind and nice to everybody. I somehow also fell for her being awkward about herself, not actually knows that people are actually LIKE her. And I love how the play helped her to figure things out.

Gideon, oh my god. Gideon. I'd do anything to have a boy like him crazy over me even if it's just for one day. When Claudie rejected him the first time, I almost lose it. Like how the fuck? Even in the lowest point of my life I WOULD NEVER consider that rejection for one second. GOD. It's the Prince Majestic request OMG???

"Number six, best laugh. Ever." His eyes land on me, fix there for a moment. "When you make Claudia Wallace laugh, you feel like you've earned something." . DAMN.

And the way Iris saying true things to Claudia, "You have a best friend and siblings who love you. Gideon looks at you like you fucking hung the moon, and I -- you have I give a shit about you too, you know. We all do. And to say that, it's like you're saying we're wrong. Do you think we're all wrong? All of us? To care about you like that? To... value you, the way we do?"

I also immediately reminded when a good friend of mine called me out, I seemed having an "Impostor Syndrome" for not taking myself seriously. I feel... reflected.

But really, the writing tho. Emma Mills slayed this one. She seems like she knows what she's doing, IN THE RIGHT TIMING. Her writing is funny and relatable, but also cut in the gut when its needed. It's perfect. I ONLY READ IT IN ONE SITTING OMG. I keep writing OMG. But it is that GOOD.

Ok, wow. This was incredible. Foolish Hearts has skyrocketed to my favorite contemporary novel I've read in a long time, and I borrowed it on a whim from my library. Though I'm thrilled I did.

First and foremost, this book was funny. Like really, genuinely hilarious. I don't often laugh out loud reading books (I'm more of a "blowing air aggressively through my nose" kind of person when I read something funny), but this had me audibly cracking up. The dialogue between characters was PRICELESS. It was so very funny and so very real -- Mills made it clear that the characters who are supposed to be best friends actually act and sound like best friends who laugh and joke around with each other. I mean, fuck/marry/kill with Voldemort, Darth Vader, and the Joker? It was both completely ridiculous and exactly the kind of conversation my best friends and I would have.

Second, the characters. Mills made them come alive. They all had flaws, fears, and passions; they were lively and engaging and very much human. I could see them as people from my high school, see them as some of my own friends. Even the background characters, like Noah and Alex, had clear personalities and interests that made them interesting characters in their own right, characters who weren't just there to serve the greater plot.

Third, the chemistry. This, to me at least, should be a natural progression from writing strong characters, but sometimes blossoming friendships and relationships can feel awkward or forced by the narrative. These weren't. These characters were real, and so were their relationships. I absolutely loved reading about Iris and Claudia becoming friends (I actually feel like that was the strongest part about the novel), and how their friendship didn't fundamentally change either of their demeanors -- Iris is still abrasive and kind of mean, but she's acknowledging her flaws and trying to be better. But as much as I love the friendships, the relationships were also adorable. Gideon was the absolute cutest! I was rooting for Iris and Paige the entire time! Claudia's awkwardness going up against Gideon's earnestness was so sweet!

You know what, I take back what I said earlier. This isn't just one of my favorite contemporaries. It's easily one of my favorite books.
adventurous funny hopeful lighthearted medium-paced
Plot or Character Driven: A mix
Strong character development: Complicated
Loveable characters: Yes
Diverse cast of characters: No
Flaws of characters a main focus: Yes

This was cute and the hyperfixation aspects were so relatable. I loved the depiction of friendships but I wish there was more time to enjoy the romance.

I honestly don't know what Emma Mills does but she leaves me loving her characters so much that everything else is kind of secondary. It's like I spent an afternoon with friends Ilovethemsomuch

I want to edit this by saying the plot was nothing and Claudia was frustrating. But I read this when I needed to and there is something in the characters vulnerabilities that resonate with me. I would rate this closer to a two star in terms of of how good it was as a written piece rather than my emotional feelings towards it

It would have been a five-star read, but there were a few cliches and clunky moments. But overall it made me feel really good.

Loved it! Super cute!

This was so sweet and funny and like quiet and soft and I feel happy
