This book gave me all the feels and made me cry...2018 is off to a good start.

I received Foolish Hearts in my December OwlCrate box and as is one of my 2018 bookish goals I have vowed to read subscription book boxes as I get them. Honestly I don't know if I would have picked this up otherwise which would have been a real damned shame because I LOVE this book so much! It's going on my faves list and if I can ever crawl out from under my never ending tbr I will definitely reread it again. Emma Mills is going on my list of must read contemporary authors.

Claudia was so relatable, the whole time I was just like am I reading about myself? If I had to pick a book character to be me it would definitely be her. I mean she has her life a bit more together than me but otherwise it's like looking in a mirror.

And can we just give it up to all the supporting characters?

All the relationships in this book were excellent. Claudia's family played an active role and we really got to know them. Her best friend Zoe felt like a real best friend right off the bat, their friendship was so easy to pick up on. The tentative relationship between Claudia and Iris was wonderfully done. And don't even get me started on my sweet boy Gideon and his relationships.

Speaking of Gideon...I would like to claim him as my boyfriend. He's everything I ever wanted, sweet, precious, goofy...I love him so much. And like girl, come on, how did you not know.

Another thing I loved was all these different elements. You had your theater which was stated in the synopsis but the fam was all into this online fantasy roleplay game and I loved how they all played together and the friends got in on it. And not to mention fangirls represent in the most unlikely of forms. I was living for the boyband obsession.

I want to start out my thoughts by noting that this is the third or fourth time I have read this book, and for some reason, that is making it harder for me to articulate my thoughts. However, I did notice how much I anticipated little parts of the book I had consciously forgotten. I'm not sure if this was my subconscious supplying me with knowledge that I translated to be personal guesses or some other mysterious work of psychology but it was very fun. It had been the perfect amount of time since I read this book, that I felt like I could still be surprised.

Moving on to my thoughts on the book, I think Emma Mills has written a perfect story here. Characters with unique interests, treating the teenage characters in a way that feels accurate to real life, super cute romance supplemented with the strong friendship arcs. I read it all in one afternoon this time, and it was the perfect pick-me-up. I also think it has great casual representation of disability, POC characters, and a WLW relationship. All in all, I really love this book and would absolutely recommend to anyone looking for a short and sweet read.

This book was just so cute! I found myself laughing and smiling all the way through it. A super quick read for sure but so enjoyable. If I’m ever having a bad day, I’m going to just re-read this book because it is 150% guaranteed to cheer me up. Plus, all the characters are all so super cute. All in all, it’s a super cute book and I just loved it start to finish.

Okay, I am really torn here...like very very much. Because I did enjoy this a lot. But if I think about it rationally, it was not a four star read. I’d love to give it that, but I’m more of a Thinker than a Feeler so I’m sorry.

BUT!!!

Those stars I gave are very well deserved. Why? Three things:

1: Shakespeare.

I mean literally anything that has even the slightest bit to do with Shakespeare is an instant YES for me. Or theatre. And this had both. So....

2: It was super funny.

I mean the style was not the best... but it was SO FUNNY. Like I genuinely snorted at least once per chapter.

3: The realism of Claudia’s behaviour

Okay, this book is actually about EVERY SINGLE character literally SCREAMING at Claudia that Gideon likes her. FREAKING EVERYONE. But she still is like ohh he must be thinking about that other girl, or he is just generally nice. Sad or not, I see myself so much in this situation.

So I did enjoy it, yeah. I’d give like 3,5 stars tbh.

Very quick and fun read. Lovely characters and Emma Mills' humor really tickles me.

brb crying

This book was so adorable that I had to give it five stars. I loved how diverse this book was from page one. I loved how so many different aspects of teen life was show in this book like loves, passion and friendship. I would def. say this book focused so much on friendship and how friendships can change and that was the standout part of this book for me. With romance undertones that like the play midsummer nights dream, you never know who was "end-game" It was quick read that i finished in one day. I def want to read more by this author in the future.
