Overall, this was an enjoyable book. It started off slow, the world building and scene setting was a little too stretched out for this type of story, in my opinion. But it all paid off once we got to the meat of the action. Details from earlier chapters reappeared and, although it was pretty easy to spot their significance, I think it would have been an enjoyable reveal if you hadn’t paid attention to them.

Once criticism I have is that, since I listened to the audiobook edition, the narrator’s accent was extremely distracting. As someone from the UK, the narrator’s take on an English accent was already abysmal, let alone his Welsh one - which is known to be lilting and song-like. The Welsh accent is already difficult to mimic and I really wish they had the budget to have a Welsh co-narrator, or at least kept with the same accent throughout. It just took me out of the story, otherwise.

This was one of the strangest, most enjoyable books I have read in a long time. Anyone who can weave a story around a bunch of found vintage photographs and incorporate equal parts horror story, time travel, and oddities and have everything make sense at the end is worthy of receiving a 5 star rating!

Reread 1/25/14

I find it peculiar that this was such a popular book.

Fun story and the pictures definitely elevate it to the next level
