Honestly this book just gets better and better every time I read it. I have completely fallen in love with Anne and the rest of the rest of the Avonlea characters. My soul longs for the beauty of Green Gables. This is the perfect comfort read and one I know I will be coming back to over and over again throughout my life.

I knew that no sequel was ever going to live up to how much I love the original Anne of Green Gables book for how nostalgic I am for it, but this was still pretty good. There were a few parts that I didn't enjoy, particularly the way that they spoke about the girl twin Dora and the whole Jonah's Day chapter, and there was some aspects to the story that I feel like were underdeveloped, like Anne's friendship with Gilbert or Anne's relationship with her students- and the twins became very underused in the second half of the book-, but it was still a very enjoyable read. I had fun and a lot of the characters and stories were sweet and likable. I adore Miss Lavender and nearly every time Anne and Marilla interacted with each other I was so glad for how close they were, it really was so nice to see how much they've grown since the start of the first book and they really are like a mother and an close-to-adult daughter.
Solid read despite its flaws, I will definitely continue to read the series.

I have a long history with this book. I read it many times as a child and, going through as many abridged versions in my elementary school classroom to try to see which chapters would be included. Now that I'm older, I decided to read the full thing and I'm glad I did.
There were some chapters I remembered, some I had forgotten, and some that I had never read in the first place. But overall, this is a very heart-warming and wholesome slice-of-life novel about an orphan girl who found a family and a home. The ending was incredibly mature and I'm glad that Montgomery didn't sugarcoat the details of it. Of course, there were a few lines here and there that didn't age well, namely the whole Prissy Andrews/Mr. Phillips relationship, but they weren't as prominent as other books I've read from this time period.
I am incredibly interested in reading the rest of the books in this universe as well as the popular "Anne with an 'E'" TV show.

This was funny, whimsical, tender and the last chapters are one of the most honest and beautiful things I've ever read on grief and love. Anne Shirley is the best heroine and Gilbert Blythe is the sweetest boy. I need more.
