With season two of Mindhunter just around the corner, this was the best book to get excited for it!
This book was even better than the first as we dive deep into criminal profiling and the art of conversation to get the truth behind their actions on record.
I love this book as it doesn’t make you sympathize with these killers, but instead makes you understand why they did those things and how we can detect it in ourselves and others to correct it before it’s too late.

I love reading/listening Douglas' + Olshaker's work; it's like a real life episode of Criminal Minds, but even better because it IS the OG Criminal Minds. Otherwise, it's the same as other Douglas/Olshaker books; retellings of crime with a thin veneer of a purpose. Very good for true crime lovers; not great for others.
Scratched a bit of the itch from the cancellation of David Fincher's Mindhunter series
audiobook - I really loved this. I found the TV show to be only okay, a little boring; this book is not boring. It's definitely gruesome; no details are left out. But as a true crime junkie, I really enjoyed it. Plus, Jonathan Groff could read me a calculus textbook out loud and I would love it.
I liked reading about the lesser known criminals that Douglas has spoken with while relating it to more famous criminals. I was worried it would be a lot of repeat information from Mindhunter. While there was some repeat information, it wasn't too much. Overall, I look forward to reading more books by Douglas.

Tense, dark, hard subject matter. Formulaic writing, but really, how expressive can (or should) you get with these topics? It’s not a story, it’s real life.
I appreciated that Douglas is not glorifying or sensationalizing these killers. He is repeating the facts of the case and his profiling approaches and questioning. It only feels sensational because these killers are so out of the realm of us normies.
Groff is a FANTASTIC narrator. He should be tapped to do many more audiobook adaptations.
