A bulldog in a tutu, a cat with undie-pants on it's head. What's not to like? Nothing, that's what. After having read this about 3000 times in the past month I can recommend it without reservations :)

Very Cat in The Hat-ish, but still super cute.

Dog's sublime challenge time involves keeping the cats in line.

Love that the cats cleaned up their mess.. they really loved Dog.

Illustrations.. amazing.

Not wordless, at all, but illustrations tell so much of the story.. this would be fun for a picture-reader, too!

A great author/illustrator pairing! When Dog is left in charge of his family's 5 cats, he has trouble maintaining control. Funny, with precise vocabulary and charming, cartoonish illustrations.

I LOVE this book! It is absolutely adorable! When the family is away Dog is in charge of five cats. Although he has an extensive knowledge of dog commands they don't seem to work on the cats. Hilarity ensues. :)

Really liked this. Great illustrations, Dog's face is so expressive! Will it work for storytime? Well, I shall make it work. So there.

I love this book! I am a devout "dog person" and did not expect to be equally captivated by the feline characters in the story-- but I was! In this case the dog and cat characters together are what make the story engagingly and unbelievably cute, funny & sweet.

The illustrations by Dan Santat are spectacular! They fill the pages and take on a decidedly three-dimensional feel as you read. Young readers will find reading this book similar to experiencing Dreamworks-type animation--without the screen!

The best part of this somewhat predictable story is Santat's cartoony illustrations. Expressive and tightly composed, they keep us engaged as we watch to see if Dog can keep the cats in line while his owners are away.
