Really liked this. Great illustrations, Dog's face is so expressive! Will it work for storytime? Well, I shall make it work. So there.

I love this book! I am a devout "dog person" and did not expect to be equally captivated by the feline characters in the story-- but I was! In this case the dog and cat characters together are what make the story engagingly and unbelievably cute, funny & sweet.

The illustrations by Dan Santat are spectacular! They fill the pages and take on a decidedly three-dimensional feel as you read. Young readers will find reading this book similar to experiencing Dreamworks-type animation--without the screen!

The best part of this somewhat predictable story is Santat's cartoony illustrations. Expressive and tightly composed, they keep us engaged as we watch to see if Dog can keep the cats in line while his owners are away.

Poor responsible dog being put in charge of all these chaos-creating cats! But lucky reader who gets to giggle over the mayhem. The artwork in this picture book is so expressive. The silly story and the counting make this a fun (and instructive) read-aloud.

Dog loves his owners. He loves the attention they give him and the treats. But one day they go out and leave him in charge of the five cats. It is a disaster! The cats are every where and every time dog tries to get them to behave he makes a mess. Then he eats all their treats which makes him sleepy. While he his napping the cats clean up the mess and then nap with dog. The owners come home and everything is perfect.

This book was so cute. The illustrator and author completely understand animals. I loved the cats hiding and running away from dog and dog's frustration with the cats. Then the cute pile of sleeping cats and dog at the end was perfect. They all love each other. Awesome book that the kids will adore.

This endearing dog is very good at following commands, and very hopeful that he can watch the cats and keep them out of mischief while his family are out at the shops. Poor hopeful dog. It's hopeless, really. Who can control five mischevious cats?! He ends up all tuckered out and fast asleep and the house is in a mess! But happily the cats love him, and while he's napping they tidy up the lot.

Lovely story, fabulous illustrations. The grandchildren and I have thoroughly enjoyed this delightful picture book.

When Dog's people go out he is put in charge of the cats. He soon realizes that he may have bit off more than he can chew. Very cute, I love Dan Santat's vibrant illustrations.

When the humans are away, will the cats obey Dog? Psssh! Hilarious, comics-esque storytelling. Great for pet lovers.

Cute oversized pics.
