This was funny and informative, and I didn't mind the dinner party framing as she's trying to make this topic less taboo. I followed the author on tiktok long before I found this book, so I'm used to her bubbly, dramatic personality and enjoyed her reading her own audio book. I can see how it would be annoying if you aren't already familiar with her though. There are many funny stories about familiar historical figures, which was my favorite part.
The writing was sooooo verbose and patronizing. The author wastes so many pages making you pretend you’re at a fictional dinner party with prominent historical figures instead of just presenting the information you opened the book to learn. It got really old really fast. I’m sure it’s well researched and full of good info, but I couldn’t slog through the writing to get to the good bits.
Not feeling it right now. Will probably come back another time.
I really pushed myself to finish this. I wanted to stop by 30%. I didn’t like the dinner party set up. I didn’t enjoy the author’s attempts at humor or the use of euphemisms. Also, a lot of the data is from Australia. I get it since that’s where she lives. There was a lot of potential for this topic but it fell flat for me.

this was such a fun journey! i listened to the audiobook and adored esmé’s narration. she is so eccentric and lively that it added so much to the content of the book. i learned a lot and had a lot of fun doing it.
i would recommend this book to anyone who is interested in learning more about kinky history. i would especially recommend it for people who are apprehensive when it comes to sexuality. these are not new concepts & have been around for quite some time. humans have always been kinky.
