Alexi is one of my very favorite humans and this book only reinforced my appreciation and respect for her. Thank you, Alexi, for your raw honesty and humility.
I'm still processing this book and on my road to becoming a bravey. Such a raw, powerful memoir.
Flew through this book. I listened to it on audio and loved listening to the author read her words. Her story is compelling, so many interesting and difficult turns throughout her life already. She shares so openly life lessons, things she’s learned and relatable advice. I didn’t know much about the author before listening, but will for sure be cheering her and her dreams on for what’s next.
I loved this book. Alexi is funny, honest and imparts wisdom I needed to hear in my own life and struggles with mental health.
Obsessed! Such a good book with inspiration for anyone chasing dreams and battling mental illness.
I love memoirs and adored this one! As a fellow runner, Alexi Pappas has been on my radar for awhile but I didn't know her story. She has survived and thrived despite a challenging childhood. I loved her self-reflection and the way she has integrated creativity with running. Great book! So inspiring, even though she is self-aware enough to realize that she is still in process. The book didn't come across as trite but relatable. I think this would be a great book for a teenage girl to read. Alexi narrates the audiobook which is fun.
I loved many quotes so may have to pick up an actual copy of the book too, but here is one of my faves from the end: "Life is not about reducing our pain to nothing. It is about embracing pain and challenge as an invitation to rise and grow. The world is not objective – it is actually up to us. No single race, test, meeting, or project exists in a vacuum because everything that happens to us is part of a larger narrative and we can choose what that narrative is. So why not be the hero of your own story? Being a hero is a choice you can make, not a cape someone else will drape over you. You make your own cape." I don't agree with all aspects of this quote (particularly about being the hero of our story... that's God's role) but the parts about embracing pain and choosing our own narrative? Absolutely.

I read the book without knowing who Alexi Pappas is but I run and a fellow runner recommended this book. Totally worth it. I loved how instead of writing her life story in chronological order, which is logical but boring, she shared stories that were learning experiences at different points in her life. This made it a much more enjoyable read. She’s also very funny and has a lot of good advice.
