in my opinion, hunting prince dracula is so much better than stalking jack the ripper. i had a very enjoyable experience reading it.

the protagonist, audrey rose, is an incredible character. i rooted for her throughout the entire story and was so happy every time she succeeded. i can relate to a lot of her internal struggles regarding her place in society as a woman and how she wants to have a future with thomas without feeling like she has to give up her independence and ability to make decisions for herself. in that way, among many others, her character development was so good!

the romance was very cute!! i’ve never seen two characters with more chemistry than audrey rose and thomas. their little interactions and moments are so sweet and you just want them to confess their love for each other.

from the beginning, i predicted who the murderer was, but after a turn of events (iykyk), it took a whole different direction that completely shocked me!!

overall, i really, really enjoyed hunting prince dracula and will definitely continue the series in the future!! ˚₊· ͟͟͞͞➳❥

➪ my favorite quotes:
“you are going to dazzle them all, wadsworth.”
“if one simply looks to others for their opinions, they lose the ability to think critically for themselves.”
“to lose you - that would be the farthest thing from amusing i could ever imagine.”
“his eyes were my favorite constellations to gaze at; each fleck of gold surrounding his pupils were new galaxies begging to be discovered. i’d never been fascinated by astronomy before, but now found myself an eager student.”

The sequel was MUCH better than the first one, I was proper invested the whole time. It had an academia setting which immediately made this more interesting, and I loved Thomas Cresswell even more in this one (which I didn’t think was possible).

Yes!!! This is what I wanted in a sequel!! My major issues with [b:Stalking Jack the Ripper|40727470|Stalking Jack the Ripper (Stalking Jack the Ripper, #1)|Kerri Maniscalco|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1530823449l/40727470._SY75_.jpg|47434536] were definitely resolved in this instalment: firstly, the predictability of the culprit. Whereas previously the named cast was so small, there were few people to suspect, here, there were so many more suspicious characters, which made the mystery much more interesting, though admittedly I read this series less for the mystery and more the characters and relationships.

Secondly, the romance! In the first book, there were points where I cringed at the descriptions (too much 'show' and not enough 'tell' - Audrey addressed her feelings too much and I feel I'd have enjoyed it more if it was more subtle), and there wasn't enough build up but I felt quite the opposite in [b:Hunting Prince Dracula|33784373|Hunting Prince Dracula (Stalking Jack the Ripper, #2)|Kerri Maniscalco|https://i.gr-assets.com/images/S/compressed.photo.goodreads.com/books/1489420853l/33784373._SX50_.jpg|50890346]! Honestly, the tension! And the ending!!! I can't wait to start the sequel!

I listened to both books on audiobook and I would definitely recommend this route; Nicola Barber, the narrator, has a talent for distinguishing between the different character voices, making the listen easy!
