Maya Angelou is an incredible poet, and this collection is a prime example of her work in poetry. My favourite will always be And Still I Rise, but this was still an excellent read. My favourite poems in the collection were Worker's Song, Human Family, Equality, Forgive, Our Grandmothers, and Preacher Don't Send Me.
I definitely recommend this to anyone who has enjoyed Maya Angelou's other work as well as to anyone who enjoys poetry.

This is an excellent collection of poetry. Equality was the best poem in this book; it still rings true today.
It was very interesting to go straight from I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings to this and to watch the shift from her prose to her poetry. Maya was an amazing woman through and through, and there are some powerful pieces in this tiny book, but I have to admit that I vastly prefer her prose.

3.5 stars
Maya Angelou is a legend. Obviously.
That's why I read her poem book, and it was pretty good! This is the type of book you read over and over at different stages of your life and suddenly the poems take on a new meaning based on what you're going through.
I liked a lot of the poems, but this book got 3.5 stars from me because I didn't connect with some of the poems (yet). <3

Just absolutely beautiful and such a rich and complex composition of our humanity!
