Still interesting, this volume falters simply due to the oft confusing storytelling. Understandably, the author wanted to give the illusion of flashbacks--storytelling through uncovering the past piece-by-piece, while connecting it to the present. Unfortunately, this falls short. Instead of being seamless it would sometimes take me a moment to realize what story was being told, who was involved, and in what capacity. Other than that, I've no complaints with the plot. We discover the true mastermind behind the villainy in the first volume, and an (expected) betrayal of trust throws a small loop through the story. This volume hovers at a 3.5 for me, but I gave it a 4 since I'm still enamored by the art and bold colors.

Not quite as strong as the previous volume. The focus of the story shifts between a bunch of different characters and time periods, so I could see it getting confusing for some readers. Kate didn't feel like she had as much presence in this book until the very end. But I did enjoy seeing how all these different threads come together and I think the payoff is worth it.

my fav batwoman comic, and my fav comic altogether. the non-linear timeline is fascinating, mainly from the way it works. the tension in this book is incredible because of it, because answers are not given out generously, until the very end. the mystery simply builds, and builds, as it would have for each character involved, until the solution becomes glaringly clear. the most clever story i've read in that regard.

I want to like this series, but I'm just not enjoying it very much. I think Kate has a lot of potential, but I don't like the writing and that makes it tough for me to connect with the story. I particularly didn't like how this volume jumped around so much both time-wise and perspective-wise. It made it difficult to really immerse yourself in the story because you were never in one place for more than a few pages.
I did like the art though!

What I like: Batwoman, Kate Kane, Maggie Sawyer, and all permutations of interactions between them.

What I don't like, or at least not in this book:
SpoilerMedusa and the whole bringing beliefs to life thing?? IDK I don't want to blanket say that I don't like stories about ~the power of myth~, because I do, but I guess... Gotham/Batbooks, to me, are more grounded in reality? Like if the Avenger took on some lady who could bring myths to life, fine, cool. When Batwoman does it I'm just like, what?

Anyway so I'm still into Batwoman but I personally hope this storyline wraps up soon.

Interesting story - it seems a bit off the beaten path of the Bat mythos, but that's not a bad thing. Of course, Batwoman is a good, strong, self-willed protagonist.

And, it's good to see a bit of diversity in the DCU - to see main characters actually reflect the diversity of the real world.

Characters and the character development were well done (though the jumping around takes a little getting used to). And I like the touch if supernatural. I'll continue reading...

This series went from being damn near perfect in volume one to a complete mess in volume 2. The constant pointless time jumps made the story so incoherent that I stopped caring/paying attention pretty early on. And the artwork ... what the hell happened to the artwork? Where did those gorgeous graphics go? How was this drawn by the same person as volume one? What a sad disappointment.

I found this a little less interesting than the prior volume but all right on the whole. JH Williams III's beautiful art was sorely missed.
