This was a cute read
I absolutely love Jennifer Blackwood! Her books are always five star! This was a fun sweet read! I laughed out loud, I nearly came to tears and I definitely swooned over Starr. I loved the rule book!

As soon as I saw the cover of The Rule Book I was interested in it. I was trying to be good about keeping my book schedule light, though, so I resisted the temptation of getting it. Later, I stumbled on the synopsis and I was a total goner - I just immediately wanted to read it.
I was really looking forward to The Rule Book, although when my friend told me that it wasn't really steamy but the storyline was good, I will admit that I was a little disappointed because I love and need my sexy books, but I thought as long as Ms. Blackwood didn't tease me, I would be fine. I was a tiny bit hesitant to start it but once I did, I really liked it and got into the story. There were a few steamy thoughts that gave me pause but I ignored those doubts because I was enjoying being inside Lainey's head.
Lainey is an awesome heroine and she is truly one of the reasons that this book is so good. She's funny, sassy, smart and a smarta*s. She's a tough cookie but what I loved the most about her is how genuine, decent, and kind-hearted she is. Honestly, if Lainey hadn't been who Lainey is, I wouldn't have loved the book like I did - she's just that great.
The Rule Book is an amazing book. It's funny and entertaining with its beautiful moments, its heartache-y ones, and its sweet and little sexy times. I had to agree with my friend that it was a great storyline and although I really loved it, it was also a case of frustration for me because of all the hot thoughts Lainey had plus some hot action with Brogan that ultimately went nowhere. I can handle a totally sweet read, it's just when I get teased with these sexy thoughts and half-steamy moments that lead to nothing that I turn into not a happy camper - I just don't like to be or to feel like I'm being teased, you know, I want all or nothing. That is all me and my pet peeves though and even with the things I didn't like about this books, I did mostly love and enjoy it, so I think that you should still give The Rule Book a chance, even if you do like your books steamy.
The Rule Book is a standalone told only from Lainey's POV and she and Brogan do get their happily-ever-after.

Seriously wish I would have looked at the reviews before purchasing. The characters had potential in the beginning but it fizzled out quickly and there was really no coming back from all the time spent on describing everything BUT the main guy. The "love" story was ultimately rushed and unbelievable to the point where I don't even care to review it and get the two bonus chapters written from the hero's POV (he was boring from the heroine's POV, I can't imagine something written from his side would be all that exciting...)
Skip this office romance and go read Christina Lauren's Beautiful Bastard instead, you will be happy you did.

When I read the blurb for this book I thought that it would be hilarious and I’m so happy that I was right because this book was so funny. As soon as this book started I was already laughing because Starr Media had the weirdest rules book I ever heard of. The workers can’t eat garlic in work days, really?? How funny is that.
I really loved the characters in this book. Lainey was really funny and her internal monologues were hilarious. She was also very kind, smart and also ambitious and fought for what she wanted mostly because she wanted to help her mom that was sick and had a huge debt due to her illness. Brogan was… well, he was kind of perfect but a little bit too much of a workaholic. However he had his reasons to work so much. He also had a very funny dog, Bruce who loved to drool and fart which it’s pretty funny. It’s impossible not to love Bruce. I really liked Lainey and Brogran’s relationship. They had an amazing chemistry and I really loved to see their scenes together, especially when they were watching movies on Netflix (without the chill part included).
I really enjoyed the story itself and the writing but sometimes I needed to know what was going on in Brogan’s head and because the book was only told in Lainey’s POV it was impossible to know for sure what he was thinking and that’s one of the reasons why I had to lower my rating a little bit.
Overall, this was a really enjoyable read. It was really funny and everyone should read this book. And if you think that it will have tons of mature content and you don’t to read it because of that don’t worry. This book is pretty tame when compared to most NA books I’ve read so far.

The Rule Book was such a great read! I loved Lainey and Brogan and it was so much fun (and funny! which is hard to find for me).
Lainey just started working at Star Media as second assistant. She needs this job. She cannot mess up as she needs the money to help her mom. So she is determined to make it here and follow the rules. The super long list of rules that she received on the first day. Only in that first week she breaks so many of them in hilarious ways. Including calling her boss, Brogan, the antichrist to his face. Of course she didn't know it was him, but oh the humiliation. I loved Lainey so so much. She doesn't stop to think before she says something and she was fun. A bit snarkey and the situations she gets herself into were awesome.
I was expecting Brogan to be the typical alpha male head of the company. The guy who is gorgeous and controlling and all caveman like to his lady. Only he wasn't. He was gorgeous for sure (with tattoos even!!), but he is a nice guy. A really sweet, nice guy who is determined to have his company succeed. He is strict with work things, but outside of that pretty laid back. And I loved him too. Sure he has some trust issues, he can be a bit crazy with the rules at work, but he is doing it so he can hopefully succeed. I understand and man I don't know how you wouldn't fall for him. His employees love him, he is so kind and caring, he was great.
Now there is an attraction between these two right from the start, but nothing can happen there. It is one of Lainey's rules for sure - no sleeping with her boss. She needs this job. Only when they start spending more time together things get a bit sticky. I mean how could this work? And what will happen when a few kinks get thrown into the mix? When real feelings get involved?
"He was everything I could ever want in a man. He didn't complete me, because hell, I was complete to begin with, but he was the perfect compliment, one that I'd be hard pressed to find in someone else."
Seriously this book was a lot of fun to read and I can't wait to read more from this author.
The story was cute and sweet and funny and everything I could want in a story. So. much. fun!

DNF @ 9%. The reviews for this really put me off finishing it. Maybe one day.
too much of a hot-and-cold, closed-door, lack of sincere growth and communication for me, and felt a bit like a glorification of capitalism with the "I'm salaried but I'll work myself to the bone anyway."
It's a nice little romantic 3 hour read, nothing to raunchy (thankfully!).
