This book was so fun snd so vibrant. I’d love to see this wedding with my own eyes.

Zuri’s sister is getting married. She’s having a huge wedding with days of traditional events from Indian weddings.

Zuri has to find a way to sneak away for an audition that could make or break her chance to get into Juilliard. She finds out that the cute groomsmen her family is trying to match her with is going too. At first she’s not sure if she can trust him with her secret but he proves himself trustworthy quickly.

The events of this wedding celebration just sound amazing. There are days and days of events and Zuri has a significant part of all of them.

I wish I could better describe what I love about this book. I enjoyed Zuri trying to find a balance between what she owes her family and what she wants to do for her own dreams. I loved the characters. Her sisters are wonderful, her love interest is sweet and I especially love her relationship with her dad.
My favorite part of the book would be the events themselves, they’re so fun to read about. The author does a beautiful job of explaining all the traditions to someone (like myself!) who isn’t familiar with most of them. It all came to life. I would love it if they adapted this book and I could see everything in full, bright color playing out in front of my eyes.

This was definitely the lighthearted book I needed. Cute family moments plus the chaos of a wedding and the events leading up to it. This would be a great movie. It was lowkey giving Cinderella vibes but also maybe a bit of Your Lie in April? Though I am still mad that Naveen
won because he’d already gotten into Yale
. All in all, I enjoyed this book!

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the eARC! All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have mixed feelings about this book, so I'd probably give it around 3.5 stars. As always, Sajni Patel writes excellent Indian representation, and while I can't speak to its accuracy, I especially love how this book included stories from other Indian diasporas that aren't as commonly seen in media (Indo-Trinidadian and South African-Indian). Like most South Asians, I am also a huge fan of our wedding culture and how family-oriented Indians can be, and I loved reading about how that could be celebrated without shying away from critiquing the more toxic aspects of our society, like career expectations and beauty standards. The descriptions of the food, clothes, and events make me want to attend another Indian wedding as soon as possible.

That being said, I do have a few criticisms. I've read enough of Sajni Patel's books to now realize that her writing style doesn't fully agree with me. I also thought the music subplot was a little underdeveloped, and was a bit disappointed by the rather abrupt ending. Additionally, I wish we could've seen more of Zuri and Naveen's relationship or at least gotten an epilogue.

Overall, I'd recommend for readers who are looking for a Bollywood-esque tale about finding love while pursuing your dreams amidst one of my favorite cultural celebrations!

DID NOT FINISH: 66%

This book is long, and if you're reading a long book with content that makes you feel sad, it's too much. Zuri wanted to go to a music contest for college scouts after she received a rejection from Julliard. There are two problems: her family doesn't think music is worth her time, and the contest is during her sister's wedding week. What made me uncomfortable is how unsupportive and mean her family is. They pressure her and bully her constantly, and I know that's realistic. I just don't want to read about it. I'm sure somewhere in the end there's a turn, but I felt too sad to continue with it. Others should still try it. This is a case of wrong book, wrong reader.
