I was drawn to this book by the gorgeous cover and the idea of a fun Indian wedding story, but I’m really not a fan of the writing in this at all. The teen-speak feels so fake and out of touch, it’s really grating and irritating to read. I made it through six chapters of hyperactive teen rambling where absolutely nothing happened and all I have to show for it is a headache.

The story was as beautiful as the cover!

thank you to netgalley for providing me with an arc!

i was looking forward to reading this book because of the premise but i thought it felt short of my expectations. the main romance wasn't very well developed and i think that the other relationships in the book weren't really written well either. however, i loved seeing the bits of desi culture throughout the book, and could really picture the wedding festivities. i don't think the music subplot was well executed either, and the book was quite predictable as a whole. overall, i think the premise of this book held promise, but fell short in terms of execution.

bruh what even is this... not like other girls, younger sibling, brown family trope ass shit

after finishing this book i still stand on it, a lot of not like other girls bullshit and using every single brown trope that exists, super cliche, super dramatic but it was not too bad i have to admit

Sweet teenage meet cute story, amazing descriptions of the wedding and the quilt shebang involved, and sweet family too.

As a grown-ass adult, I actually wasn't sure this book would be worth prioritizing, especially since it wasn't even going to be about a queer relationship (usually a priority for me if I am going to reach insubstantial fluff).

Y'all, this was hella cute.

I really loved seeing Naveen simp for this self-assured main character, I really loved having a main character who was so determined to focus on her life and not this guy who clearly had decided to prioritize her, and I loved seeing all of the cultural details about clothes and food and family and the wedding in general.  Truly delightful.

i'm fearing this wants what bend it like beckham has

DNF.

One of my least favorite tropes is enemies to lovers, because it's so often done poorly. And let me just say, 84 pages in, I absolutely hate Zuri. Because the start of her romance is being as much of an asshole as possible. The enemies-to-lovers arc starts because she obsesses over hating Naveen because they're in the same music competition; he says some blandly nice stuff and she just wants so badly to hate everything about him. It makes her read like a petty, insecure child and I genuinely don't care what happens to her.
