I listened to the audio version of this collection read by Xe Sands, which I highly recommend. It felt like Paige was having a conversation with me, and I have listened to the collection three times now. I don’t pretend to understand all the poems in this collection, but I am not sure you need to understand everything to enjoy a poetry collection sometimes you just need to let what you feel take over. I discovered this collection on the “Get Lit Minute” podcast where they read the poem “The moment I saw the Pelican Devour” I played that episode three times just to hear that poem again, particularly the last five stanzas, and that made me want to listen to the complete collection.

Just truly lovely. Lots of great lines and gentle flouting of conversational rhythms. I am sure I’ll return to this book periodically.

I feel
as if I’m on the moon listening to the air hiss
out of my spacesuit, and I can’t find the hole. I’m
the vice president of panic, and the president is
missing.

Thoughtful, short poetry. There were certain lines that went right to the heart.

".........I move
through life like I'm trying to
avoid a stranger's vacation photo."

I give it 3.5 stars.

I am reading this collection of poems as part of a bookclub. And some of the discussions about it have been very interesting. Without the discussion with others, I don't think I would have been able to grasp a lot of what Lewis wrote.

However, there is some great imagery in many of the poems. The references to real things that have happened in the world are really interesting. I never before would have thought I'd learn about factual things in poetry.

I also liked how, through the discussions, it seemed as if Lewis had many themes running throughout many of the poems, despite them not seeming to be directly related.

Even though I didn't give it a high star rating, it does have me interested in trying to read more poetry in the future.

This sort of poetry is just not my cup of tea. There was a fascinating but quick reading when it came to the audiobook but there are other poems I just prefer and that's what happens with all sorts of literature, does it not?

Reading books of poetry is honestly very new to me but this one was astonishing. The poems feel intimate like they offer a glimpse inside the poet's mind in the everyday. They have that effortless polish that I'm sure means that every word was agonized over. Definitely worth the read!

I follow the author on Twitter and pre-ordered the book based on their announcement and a stellar review in Poetry magazine. After waiting for several weeks for it to be released and delivered, I was slightly concerned that I might be justifiably disappointed when the collection fell short of my much too lofty expectations.
I shouldn’t have worried. This book is even better than I hoped it would be. Paige Lewis is a phenomenal talent and these poems are among the best I’ve read in a long time. I wanted there to be twice as many as are included in this volume, as it was over long before I was ready to finish. I guess I’ll just have to start all over from the beginning. I’ve a suspicion it will be even more amazing the second time through.

This collection of books feels like a warm hug. The poems are tender, anxious, soft and yet important. The metaphor of breath follows along the book like a ghost and I like the callback to the business of naming things which is something Paige's husband's debut collection also shares in common. I enjoyed my time reading it.

I'm still not sure what I thought of this collection. I often struggle with poetry and this often felt a little too abstract to be my cup of tea.
