This book had some fat-shaming, which I did not appreciate at all. Other than that, the writing was good and the story was addicting. Sometimes, the main character would annoy me also because she would just push her way into getting information by forcing people to tell her. She would literally tell people they HAD to give her information and emotionally toy with people in vulnerable situations to extort information from them. Like I get that she wanted to solve the murder but couldn't she have gone about it in a more ethical manner? It rubbed me the wrong way, especially towards the end.

It was fine
I guess I didn’t enjoy it that much because I didn’t feel much connection with the characters, and that is a very important component of a story for me. Yes, they were nice, and a few times funny, but nothing that made me genuinely care for them.
The murder was also intriguing, and a few scenes were also well thought out. But the story felt flat, or perhaps it was the writing.

Very run of the mill murder mystery, kept me engaged but not the best I’ve read recently. This book was truly just average.

This is a fun, cosy mystery. One of the major presences in the market for a reason. Although predictable and at times repetitive, the story is compelling and engaging. Not high literature but well worth a read on a lazy Sunday.
I can't give this more than three, not that the story was heinous in anyway or had massive flaws at all...its more the author's insistence on bullying fat people? there are at least 4 mentions of Brother-in-Law's cookie consumption (SHE OWNS THE COOKIE SHOP) and the "roll on his stomach" Then we meet Betty from the Dairy and it was a scathing description of a fat teenager who was bullied in high school for being fat, now being a fat adult who our main character couldn't compliment honestly....not to mention the passive "frank, who was mildly retarded but did fine living on his own"... This also just might not be my genre, generally I'd want a murder mystery to be a little more suspense/ thriller than this which really comes off as "cozy" for the most part.
The 25th edition of the Chocolate Chip Cookie Murder also has a short novella in the back of it but I think I'll pass on that one. Aesthetically, that 25th edition IS spectacular...with the chocolate chip cookie edges and all...masterful design, I just wish the story was more my taste.
