I had a good time! Lyra was a delight and I really liked the Finnish audiobook reader as well as the translation as a whole. The start was a bit slow for me, and towards the end there was sooo much going on in the worldbuilding that it started to feel kinda disjointed. Other than that tho I enjoyed the ride!

The execution is unfortunately weaker than the concepts introduced and explored. However, the last 20% or so were really good. Unlike the time I tried to read this when I was 11 or so, I'm going to give the second book a chance to convince me.

I really tried to give this book a good effort on my part. I know this book/series was well received, winning numerous awards and such but I just didn't see it. I read until page 139 when I just couldn't take it anymore and returned it to the library.
The characters were unlikeable and the story was heart-wrenchingly slow to develop. I don't mind sifting through a background story but this one was repetitive and, well, boring. In addition, I couldn't stand the poor language of the characters. I know it is a stylistic point but I don't care to read it.
