This book was equally captivating and dull at the same time. The beginning felt incredibly rushed because the author would just quickly brush over a situation that happened.
E.g.: ‘There was a secret compartment beneath Ma’s bunk, where Lyra lay cramped for two hours while the police banged up and down the length of the boat unsuccessfully.’
I knew it would probably get better, but if it weren’t for that, I would’ve stopped right there and then. Around halfway through the plot, the story really picked up and we got more descriptions. We would get to know the Lyra a lot better as well. In the end, I was actually enjoyed the story quite a bit so I will definitely continue with the series as I think the story has a lot of potential!
