Y'all, I don't get why people like this book. For me, the entire thing just felt like a slog. Too long, it dragged, etc. etc. etc.
I will not be reading the other two in the trilogy.

I read this so many, many years ago, and I watched the very good HBO adaptation, but this audiobook was a brand new, fantastic experience. Pullman has the same ability as Madeline L'Engle and Ursula Le Guin to write emotionally, socially, and politically complex books that do not condescend to their younger audience in the least. Fantastic characters, adventure, settings, the lot. Iorek Byrnison will always hold a special place in my heart.
a really fun book! Can't wait to dig into the sequel. big fan of the bears.
i listened to the audiobook and it's like. a full cast where every important character gets a different voice, which i find wild. i didn't love it in the beginning but it's really grown on me. it's like a better version of a podcast this way. i'd recommend it!

Northern Lights is the story of Lyra, an eleven year old girl, who was brought to Jordan College and left there to be raised by scholars.
Her Uncle Asriel, checks in on her, but is completely engrossed in his research of Dust.
When children begin to go missing, including Lyra’s best friend, Roger, she sets out on an adventure to find and rescue him.
But first, she must escape from the clinches of the ever charming and beautiful Mrs. Coulter, who is conducting evil research of her own.
I really loved this. I read it after watching His Dark Materials on HBO, and I’m completely obsessed! 4 Stars.
