The Shadow of Kyoshi

I gave this four stars cause you can’t give half stars. 4.5/5 is where I’d rate this. It is such a good follow up to Rise of Kyoshi. I didn’t think it was AS good which is why I couldn’t give it 5 stars but it was so close. I really, really love Kyoshi as a character and find her flaws refreshing. She is just awesome.

I didn’t enjoy this one quite as much as the first, but it’s still very good. Also, I love my bad ass ladies.

Enjoyable as I'm a big Avatar fan, but didn't really catch my attention or pull me in. The pacing and narration was quite awkward a lot of the time.

While this started out a little rocky, like Kyoshi, it quickly rose the occasion and became a great book. I’m not sure I’d say it’s better than the first book, but they’re equal to me. I really enjoyed seeing more from Kyoshi, and I liked the new characters introduced. The expansion of Kyoshi and Rangi’s relationship was nice, and I found Hei-Ran’s character to be really interesting. I like how this sets up things we know will eventually come in LoA/LoK (the white lotus, the Fire Nation’s militarization, etc).

I don’t believe there are plans for any more books following Kyoshi (I think if they did I would want them to follow her when she’s a bit older/more confident), however I would really like to see either books following other avatars (Yangchen, Roku, or a pre-Szeto avatar like maybe the Salai they keep hinting at that we know virtually nothing about. I just don’t think Kuruk, Aang, Korra, or Szeto have much else for us to learn about because it was either explored here or in the anime/comics) or just other benders doing interesting things around the globe.
