It was okay. The story line was not cohesive enough. Is this about the games or a crime? It was more about the games with family angst thrown in.

I did like the attempt at more inclusive characters.

Villain is cartoonish. So is the resolution of the villain's plot line. Most of the rest of the book is OK, though. Could be fine as a beach read, but not terribly impressive science fiction. Deeply disappointing to anyone looking for The Expanse meets Ender's Game, as the world building and character development were both very shallow compared to either of those series.

For the most part I found this enjoyable. The sci-fi aspects were interesting with some ideas incorporating advanced technologies mixed with old style solutions which seems more realistic for the way we humans invent and use things.

Definitely a soft entry into contemplating society with open approaches to gender fluidity. I liked the ideas, and appreciated that the focus of the book was sci-fi, not graphic sex -- something that I wish more non-sci-fi writers would consider.
