Quite a fascinating book. A really interesting look into Dr Brown’s career from being a GP in a small town, to the doctor for young offender’s, then to men’s prisons and finally to women’s prisons.

Curious and page turning insights into a little heard world of broken lives, raising more questions than answers about our own society our prison system.
Fascinating content, slightly flawed by structure of narrative but page turningly gripping and soul searching

Overall: The book follows Dr Amanda Brown after she leaves her GP practice following the 2006 reforms. From there, by chance after her article was published, she becomes a prison doctor. She tells the story of her experience working in young offenders units, to some of the UK’s most dangerous prisons. There’s some incredible, and powerful stories told throughout this book. Some completely heartbreaking. One thing that remains totally obvious throughout, is how much Brown genuinely cares about her patients. Each and everyone of them. No matter what they have done/been accused of. Her compassion and love to help people is extraordinary! I really enjoyed this book, it was a super fast – eye opening- read (triggers of drugs, abuse etc).
An OK read but spoiled by the smug, superior tone of the author throughout the book.
The Prison Doctor was a good read for me. I liked the way Amanda Brown shows and tells us the experiences with her paitents and how difficult it is for her at times to handle them. Amanda Brown also talks about how she feels herself and the effects of working as a doctor in a wild and sometimes threating prison.
This book gives light to people who do not know what priosn is like from the inside. The way Amanda Brown decribes the prison in some cases is devasting to hear but gives information to the reader in a keen way.
I read the book in a matter of weeks however it was tricky for me in the beginning to start reading but once I had got past the first chapter I flew throught the book and enjoyed reading it.
This book is filled with an important message and I would recommend this to a friend to read as I found it enjoyable even though I dont normally pick out authors who share their own personal stories.

Dr Amanda Brown... what a respectful and powerful women! I loved this book. This is an eye opening, heartbreaking and extremely interesting read. I loved reading about the life of a prison doctor... it is something I’ve never really thought about before! She writes about the highs and lows of the prisoners she meets. She doesn’t judge the prisoners, she cares and treats them for who they are underneath their crime and past, which was so heartwarming. The stories Dr Brown tells throughout, were touching and sometimes tragic. The book depicted just how extremely challenging her job is but why it is so rewarding too. I warmed up to Dr Brown instantly and I can see why the prisoners did too! I will definitely be reading her second book! Recommend to anyone who loves crime and medical memoirs
