This is a story about a swanky sleepaway camp in a small town. Goldie is a local from town and her camp besties come from families with money, they are now counselors. Goldie takes the fall for a crime that her boyfriend actually committed, and then he turns up dead at the camp the day before it started….who did it and why? This was a lot of fun especially reminiscing sleepaway camp days!

Lowkey reminded me of this story we had to read in English class in which it was supposed to be a mystery but talked about climate change and the environment. This is that but instead of tree-hugging, it's investment banking and money corruption 🤗

This girl Goldie has the dumbest name ever to match her dumb brain. Girllllllll your desperation reeks please stop embarrassing meeeeeee. But at least this is an Emalie audiobook classic: cheesy high school thriller. I’ll eat it up every time
Goldie Easton had always felt like an outsider in her small New England town of Roxwood. However, she’s also had the privilege of looking forward to camp Alpine Lake, a prestigious camp that sees wealthy kids from all over and one where due to her parents working their, she’s gotten to enjoy every summer and had even made lifelong friends with two girls, Ava and Imogen who have been like sisters to her and have always made Goldie feel special even if she is just a Roxwood local. The girls have always looked forward to their summers at camp and this year will be even better because they’ll all be 18 and life guards and will enjoy their final summer together.
Goldie needs Camp Alpine Lake now more than ever after a stupid decision leaves her the most hatred person in Roxwood by her peers and she is abandoned by her boyfriend who she adored so much, essentially leaves her alone through all this, despite being the one to truly blame. So she desperately misses Ava and Imogen and can’t wait to have another summer with them. However, when a dead body shows up on the shores of Alpine Lake, Goldie needs to open up about her own issues to her friends and find what other secrets are being kept in the camp and town of Roxwood if she wants to get her future back.
I came across this book as a $5 deal when buying a cafe drink at Barnes and Nobel so it was a very cheap add on and I had hoped it would be a decent read but honestly nothing left a huge impression after I finished it except wishing I’d read something else. I hate being mean but the main protagonist was just pathetic and so lacked any good judgement. She essentially throws herself under a bus and refuses to stand up for herself and then her so called “best friends” she can’t even tell them what happened. The murder and mystery honestly just didn’t pull me into it either. I won’t get into spoilers but if you want a good mystery summer camp novel, I’d highly suggest you skip this one cause the plot was all over the place and honestly the characters were so generic and vain that I couldn’t really care to root for them.
