Extremely slow start. But enjoyed the last 100 pgs of it a ton. None of Goodman’s books have quite lived up to her first one in my humble opinion. But I’m going to continue reading them bc if nothing else they are all nice easy breezy reads.
The YA was strong with this one. I think I would have really liked this when I was in middle school, it’s a solid gateway into mystery/suspense/thriller novels. I was never a camp girlie but loved living vicariously through the camp counselor perspective. The twist and ending were (I thought) painfully predictable.

umm i was expecting a fun summer murder mystery but boiled down it's just about tax evasion and ndas?? not complaining though bc i listened to it as an audiobook and it works better than melatonin
Loved most of it, but the ending was a little rushed and I feel like some of the loose threads were just jumbled together instead of tied up neatly.

The really liked The Counselors. I love a camp setting and this one's gives all the feels. I liked the "townies" and the campers and the timeline jumps. I felt sad for Goldie, and 34-year-old me shook my head at some of her decisions, but 18-year-old me totally connected with her. This book keeps you on your toes and has a lot going on. Definitely recommend, especially to former campers and camp counselors.
Not quite what I was expecting but I will admit it was pretty good.
Although I love the setting of a summer camp (very Parent Trap), and especially a murder mystery at a summer camp, this book just fell flat for me.
I liked the setting of a camp in Vermont. I liked the dichotomy of the townies and the rich city kids. Those were the only two things I liked.
A supposedly Three Musketeers-esque friend group but we only get info on main character Goldie and Ava. Imogen is just there as a side character, and she does nothing for the plot. It might as well have just been Goldie and Ava.
The dual timeline was intriguing at first but then once we got past the car accident it was just unnecessary.
Was super tired of hearing about Heller. Could picture all of these guys from Roxwood wearing head to toe camo with a mouthful of chewing tobacco. Uninspiring to say the least.
Then the reveal with Stu and Mellie was so cheesy with the “we love you but we love the camp more” and “we did it for the camp”. Ick. Like if the announcers from Pitch Perfect killed someone. It was just odd. Kind of made more sense when it was Meg as the prime suspect.

Wanted something easy I could read in one day and this was it! Loved all the twists and brought back tons of (oddly specific) nostalgic summer camp memories- very much enjoyed!
