I enjoy the audio for these books. This series is my first introduction to Sherrilyn Kenyon, and I am loving it. The story is nicely paced out overall. There are quite a few characters, but you never really feel overwhelmed by all of them. I didn't realize this was a prequel series to the Darkhunters series, and I am really excited to get more of these characters. So far Nick is trying to adjust to all the magic, and monsters, and general craziness on top of puberty (sounds fun...). He has several people trying to help him through all this. Kirian, a dark hunter, Acheron, who intrigues me to no end, Caleb, Cody and his over protective mother. I have a feeling someone sells him out at some point, but I just get the impression some of these people are not to be trusted.
The Chronicles of Nick is Sherrilyn Kenyon's first young adult series and, personally, I think that Invincible is infinitely better than the first book of the series, Infinity. Don't get me wrong, I loved Infinity. However, aside from the fact that there was no sex and minimal swearing, Invincible felt less like a young adult novel to me. I may be the only one who feels that way, but there it is.
That being said, I just want to say that I really like that Nick has different adventures and trials with each book. In the first book, he and his friends had to take down a pack of killer zombies. In this book, killer demons are after Nick because he is the Malachai and they want his powers and soul. Looks like Nicky's got quite a full plate! I wonder what he will come across in the next book, Inevitable.
One of my problems with this series is Ambrose. I'm still not sure how I feel about him, especially about him messing with Nick's past and, ultimately, his future. I know that Kenyon is changing Nick's past for a reason, but I don't know why and I'm worried about what it will change in "the present." Is it going to change Nick's life? Is it going to change how Nick can deal with his powers? Will Nick already have control over his powers? Will Nick and Acheron still be friends? Who's to say. I just hope that it doesn't change a lot of what we already know about Nick from the Dark-Hunter series. Another thing about Ambrose is...Nick figures out who he is at the end! *GASP!*
Nekoda and Caleb are two characters that I'm also still not sure about. I want to like Caleb, and I actually do, but I still don't know what's doing with him. He's relatively more honest than Nekoda about her aims, but who knows what's going on.
I absolutely loved seeing other familiar characters in this book once Cherise started working at Sanctuary and in other circumstances: Remi, Dev, Aimee, Wren, Colt, Tate, and lots of others. Seriously. I got really, really excited and start squealing my ass off, and I'm pretty sure I scared my dog. But yeah, I loved seeing them. However, my absolute favorite character to see was...Savitar! I want his little Savy babies. Good Lord, I love that man. He's quite possibly my favorite male character of the whole series--Dark-Hunter that is.

"Sorry. Didn't realize you scared like a little girl."

"Got it. You're fourteen. I'm so proud you can count that high. It's a testament to the modern American educational system. But I should probably point out that you're not the only one. I'm told you go to a school with a whole class of--get this--kids who are fourteen."
(Acheron, page 144)
"Acheron has a saying, and it's so true. There are some things sorry can't fix. Life is all about regrets. Don't let those regrets be that you've hurt someone who really loves you. Keep those to a minimum. It's bad enough when you have to carry them through a single lifetime. When you have to carry them through thousands, it's brutal."

"It's never the enemy without who brings you down. It's always the enemy within."
He nodded. "Guard your back, Nick. It's the one you don't see coming. The one you trust whose betrayal is most lethal. They know your weakness and they know how to hit the lowest. It's when your back is turned and your guard it down that they move in for the kill."
(Nick and Kyrian, page 219)
"All of us are a culmination of vital parts of our parents and their pasts. A vital part of the circumstances we were raised with. Everything that happens to us, good and bad, leaves a lasting impression in our souls. You take one part of that out, and you can completely rewrite something crucial about us. By and large, we're not shaped by the bad things. It's the little, day-to-day moments that make us who we are. Who we're going to be."

"No like, you matter what you think is insignificant. Everyone has a purpose. Even you."
(Nick, page 310)
"In the end, the only things that matter are the people in your life. The one who make your life worth living and whose smiles light up your world. Don't ever push them aside for fair-weather friends. Everything else is just cheap window dressing that you can replace."

"You can't buy back time, Nick. Ever. It's the only thing in life you can't get more of, and it's the one thing that will mercilessly tear you up when it's gone."

The second book in the series and it only gets better! OMG. There were several parts where I was laughing out loud with one or two parts that I had to try to hold it in because I was at work. Laughing when no one is around can cause people to stare or in my case, have the boss come out of his office to check in on me…
The story picks up right where book 1 left off. So this is definitely not a standalone. There isn’t much of that “catch up” that occurs in other books that occurs when it’s meant to be read as a standalone. So if you picked this book to start the series, put it down, and start with book #1.
Seems like Nick can’t catch a breath. Just when one disaster is averted another one is just about to begin. The good news? Besides his mad skills in sarcasm 101, he’s actually very smart and without knowing it, has surrounded himself with individuals who are very powerful. Down side? Both Nick and the readers are trying to figure out which of these individuals are friend or foe. Nick has a good head on his shoulders and while only 14 years old, is very mature for his age and isn’t selfish. He is overall a great, decent human being, which is why the bad guys want to make sure to turn him evil.
Simi is too cute! Deadly but cute. Definitely not someone you want to mess with. We learn a little more about Nekoda and Caleb. Nick learns more about them as well. One of the things I really enjoy about the writing style is that Nick and the reader are on the same journey of discovery. We learn things as he does.
We also get to meet a slew of new characters from Grim, and yeah his name sort of gives it away, to the family that owns Sanctuary. Which I’m sure we’ll get to learn more in the upcoming books.
I couldn’t wait to read book 2 when I finished the first one and I find myself feeling the same - can’t wait to read book 3. Sherrilyn leaves you wanting more. Not because things were left unfinished, but because the writing is superb and the story in engaging. You don’t want to put it down. You want to know what happens next to Nick and his friends. How will everything turn out?
Narrator Review: Holter Graham brings each of the characters to life. He does a fantastic job with each voice and tone. Entertains without being distracting. Truly enhances the reading experience!

About the same as the first one, but maybe a bit less confusing. keeping me intrigued! On to #3!
This book was great. Really shuld be made into a movie or tv series.
As I've said before, I'm listening to an audio book of this series. That being said this book was an excellent installment towards the series. Nick is starting to learn more about himself and what those around him are. Whilst keeping that sarcastic humor that makes him hilarious. I am waiting on the edge of my chair for the next audio book to come into my possession.
This was a easy quick read. It wasn't as involved in the DH characters of old and maybe that is why I didn't like it as much as the first but both were 4 1/2 stars, just this one was on the lower side. I enjoyed it greatly and am finding that getting to know Nick is more interesting than I thought it would be. Still I can see after several of these, I will tire of the series. I'm sure Kenyon will take it on some arc or another but that has a 50/50 hit or miss probability as that is what happened with the DH after about 8 or 10 books. Well complaining before it even comes out is not fair really but... one book a year?
OK, really good UF story and story line. The background story is growing but we don't feel to much like a cliffhanger because we DH fans know what is coming... more or less. I just had one issue with the story line here and that was Grim. Even so I would recommend this to any DH fan.
Two books down, so far so good.

I don't understand why Nick takes Grim at his word and trusts him. Why has he not discussed Grim with any of the other people around him?Two books down, so far so good.
Spolier-----
Very good! But it raises one question ... Since things are changing for him because Ambrose has come to him and told him things and is trying to change things. Because the Ambrose in these books has been around for centuries is what savitar said so how much woul him changing things like the whole simi thing. How much would change the dark hunter series. Because yeah nick would be mad at Acheron for the whole momma thing but nick would have never slept with simi since Ambrose told him to NEVER go there with her. Hmmm... So then Acheron would have never cursed him. Right??!! That changes some things....

"You're a what? And demons what to kill me, nice."
If you could sum up Invincible in three words, what would they be? Sarcastic, fast-paced, and more-wanting.
What did you like best about this story? Nick and Simi - They are just so funny. Nick in the way his teenage mind faces his environment and situations is so funny in narcissistic way. Simi in the way she just is..."Demons taste better with BBQ sauce" her comments will just make you laugh.
What about Holter Graham’s performance did you like? Holter has been the perfect narrator for this series. The way he is able to change tone, pitch, and pace of his voice fits the book well. I would listen, and plan to, to more from Holter, even books by different authors. He has a good voice for fantasy and young adult books.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting? Yes, this book never really had a long enough pause in the action or storyline for a convenient pausing point. In fact, I listened to this book going back and forth on my 1.5 hour commute and found my speed a lot slow listening to this book and others in the series than with other books.
