Admittedly, I’m left a bit adrift as to how I feel about this book.
I enjoyed it. It made me smile. It gave me hope. It made me consider how precious life is.
It also made me sad. It made me contemplate how short life is, how we live our lives, and how so much of it is wrapped up at the end in a way that doesn’t really encapsulate their lives.
It was a tough listen at the moment, but a good one.

A sentimental self help book in the guise of a comic novel in a pastiche version of New York City. The supporting characters exist only to teach the unlikeable and hapless protagonist life lessons. The absurdity of the central conceit of the book lacks any punch because it’s far too earnest to commit to the satire necessary to make it work.

I laughed out loud many a time, enjoyed the dry irreverent humor combined with heartfelt musings on facing mortality and living one’s best life. My hesitation to give 5 stars was a few parts that felt to me like they bordered on preachy or saccharine but generally I felt like the novel had a unique voice. I appreciated the splash of quirkiness!
When a book can make me both laugh out loud and tear up in public, it’s special. I will think about Bud and Tim and Leo for a long, long time.

Picked this one up on a whim after a librarian’s recommendation. Was not expecting my heart to get shattered. This might be a tough read for anyone in acute grief. For me, it was a touching reminder of how temporary our time on this planet can be, and how we can make more of the days we have left.
