I was ready to give this book a bad rating because the beginning was so incredibly boring and I didn’t have any hope for the rest of it. BUT THEN it pulled a total 180 and got super interesting!

I was super excited for this book! Then, I read a couple of reviews from some book friends of mine and they weren't super happy with it. Due to that, I put this book off for quite a while because I was nervous it wasn't going to live up to my expectations. However, I am glad I went ahead and trusted my gut enough to read it myself because I COULDN'T PUT THIS BOOK DOWN! I loved it!

I will say "The Escape Room" part of this book doesn't really go on for very long in the book. So much so that this makes me question the title being "The Escape Room". However, I believe this title really draws people in and will make them want to read it more than if it was just called "The Elevator" (because that's mainly what this book is centered around).

Sure, there were definitely some parts that were cheesy.
Spoiler Sure, this was basically the concept of Gone Girl ripped off into The Escape Room storyline. But personally, I think this was done better than Gone Girl. I hated Gone Girl but I forced myself to read the book and watch the movie because of the hype around it. But, I loved the twist in Gone Girl.
Sure, the characters were very annoying and the book was super unrealistic and unattainable. But, I still loved it. I was immensely wrapped up in the storyline. I was sad when I was forcing myself to put this book down at midnight (because I had work the next day) when I was at 80% complete after reading it all day.

I definitely recommend! Thanks to NetGalley for an ARC version of this book in exchange for this review.

Vincent, Jules, Sylvie, and Sam, top finance professionals living in extreme luxury, are invited to an escape room challenge as a team-building exercise. Once inside the elevator, they find themselves trapped in a dangerous game of survival instead. Forced to work together despite their rivalries, they must solve cryptic clues to escape. As the game reveals their darkest secrets and past misdeeds, they face a final chilling puzzle: who among them will kill to survive?

Rating: 4/5

Overall, I give this novel four out of five stars. The plot and storytelling are well done, though the pace occasionally feels slow. The dual point of view between the main character and the escape room situation is interesting; I enjoyed the main character's perspective and their significant character development, but the escape room narrative sometimes felt monotonous, with flat characters that didn't evolve much. Despite this, Megan Goldin's writing style is fantastic, crafting a gripping and original thriller with a surprising twist at the end. If you're a fan of Megan Goldin, I highly recommend this excellent and somewhat addictive thriller.

Well I didn't mean to binge this but...
I couldn't put this book down. Absolutely loved the reveal at the ending. I'm sure some people would see it coming but I certainly didn't. Really enjoyed this thriller and looking to read others from this author.

Have you ever been stuck in an elevator with 3 people you can't trust? Getting out with their lives intact may be difficult.

The story goes back and forth between Sara's story and "The Elevator". Sara is a sad and lonely woman who thinks she has finally found success at a large New York company, only to be caught up in the mysterious death of her co-worker and friend and eventually losing her job because she asked too many questions. Her life is in ruins and it looks pretty bleak.

Jump to a year or so later and Sara's four colleagues are stuck in the company's elevator assuming they have been called there for an escape room game where they have to answer clues to get out.  Little do they know, someone has found out their secrets and plans to make their life a living hell.

The characters are naive, brilliant, contemptible, and shallow. The emotions will run high when one reads about the low and backstabbing things these people do because of money and power. And some are too naive to see it before it's too late.

I was blown away by this story! It is so original and well-planned out that I was glued to it to the end. Let's just say, revenge is sweet. A chilling read that will make you look at your co-workers a bit differently. Recommend highly!

Thank you to Ms. Goldin, St. Martin's Press and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to review this book with no expectations of a positive review given.

If you ever wanted to know the inside secrets of Wall Street financial analysts this is your book. You see the huge perks but also a lot of the sacrifices made in their personal lives, but also huge rewards. However, in this world you have to look out for all the co-workers willing to stab you in the back to get ahead.

After one co-worker ends up dead, one Sara can't seem to move on. When she asks questions she becomes a target to be pushed out. The others get caught in an elevator years later in an escape room "team building" exercise but it seems something went wrong and they aren't sure if they will make it out alive. I wasn't expecting the ending and it kept me entertained throughout the whole book.

I received a free copy from the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
