I almost stopped reading this book after the first page. After seeing the writing style used I thought there was no way I would be able to get through it. Thankfully I gave it a shot and I am so glad I did. Once the book truly got going I was so sad to put it down and take breaks for things like work and sleep! If you can handle the writing style, I highly recommend diving into Satellite.

Unreadable.
Full of shorthand and disjointed thoughts. It's one thing to try and capture the feeling of reading someone's mind who's a teenage, and another to make something that reads as if it was written by a 10 year old.

The way this book is written. Text message speak. Nope. I just cannot read a book written like this.

This book was something really beautiful. I will always remember Leo, the biggest little hero, Orion, Libra, Comet and Grandpa.

Sadly, DNF at 10%, but that's entirely my own issue. I've never been good at decoding any kind of dialect, it just doesn't make sense in my brain, and this is written entirely in text speak. It's a shame because I think the story is good, it's just too much work for me to read.

Thank you very much to Netgalley and Hachette for the opportunity to read it.

So I put down this book once I hit a really emotional bit near the end bc I wasn’t ready for the ending and I didn’t pick it back up for like 2 weeks, but I finally finished it. The ending actually wasn’t as emotional as I thought it would be.

I really loved this book. I like reading books set in space and imagining what 0g would feel like and how I would move in it, but this book also made me think about 1g and how it feels like the most normal thing to me but to Leo and Libra and Orion it’s fighting against them all the time.
The shorthand and other unorthodox formatting in this book was interesting, and I didn’t hate it but I think I just had to focus more on each sentence and how it flowed.

Also can we talk about the hints of homosexuality??? Like seriously. There’s so much gay tension and no release at any point and the ending (no spoilers) really just sets up more tension like what are they gonna do??? Are they gonna be gay or what???? It just felt like the author was being a tease. Like just one nice kiss maybe please?

Anyways 5/5, would recommend, cool space children and fun new viewpoint.

A simple and romantic book about space travel, family, and finding your place in this world (or out of it). I feel like I must share the exact sentiments as the author towards outer space and the fantasy of one day being able to feel 0 g, because every word tugged at my heart.
“if Orion disappeared & the authorities asked where he was, i’d say look for anyplace where there is poetry, or movies, or music. anyplace where there are no people but there are things that people have made, to tell stories.”

Plot-wise, this book is an enjoyable science fiction read about three teenagers who were born in space, in zero g and are about to head to earth for the very first time. It's engaging, interesting and the characters hold true, especially the protagonist, Leo. However, the entire book is written in "textspeak". Not a single I is capitalized every see is c and you is u. It is a bit strange and there does not seem to be any explanation andmy small brain could not figure out why it was done.

That said, Satellite is avery intersting take on what the space program could look like in the future and if some very unethical decisions were made.
