I only recently started reading the classic works of Agatha Christie, but so far her track record has been all 5 star reads and I totally see how she gained such fame as a writer of her time.

Death on the Nile has a lot of Christie's strengths while letting go of some of her weaknesses. While the roster of characters is lengthy, most characters feel developed and flushed out more-so than other similar works (e.g., Murder on the Orient Express has some truly flat characters).

I think this story actually has a lot of parallels to Orient Express (Poirot even mentions that case by name, lmao), and could be described as a similar story with more shock-value, opulence, and better pacing of plot. The atmosphere is divine and the story is gripping. I enjoyed how utterly french Poirot seemed and how his own quirks showed in this story.

Although I really enjoyed this read, I would not recommend it as a first-time Christie work. Of the works I have read thus far, Crooked House is definitely the most accessible and a good sampling of Christie's style!

Une fois encore, bluffée par la plume d’Agatha Christie. J’ai trouvé le roman un peu à démarrer mais la résolution de l’enquête est si appréciable qu’elle efface toutes critiques qui pourraient être faites !

I really enjoyed the execution of the murder as always and the slow reveal.

Some of the stereotyping was crazy even for the 1930s but especially the audiobook narrator was out of pocket 😂

I also wanted it to be slightly more atmospheric but it was focused more on the characters than the setting which is typical of Agatha Christie so idk what I was thinking!
