I´m sorry to admit that I did not like this one. i found the plot too strange and frankly not very interesting. It felt as though the author was all to eager to give the novel an even more emotional twist than usual and it became too much.

This one felt especially contrived to me.

I love Inspector Gamache and this series. In particular I really appreciated the fact that other characters in the book - such as Clara - are continuing to become more dimensional and fleshed out. All of the characters are messy and human in this book, which is part of the reason I enjoy them so much.

2 1/2 stars

As a big fan of the series, I am so disappointed with this book. After two particularly fantastic books in a row, and especially book #9, this one started weak and only got worse. Please, no more Clara...ever! Once a fascinating character, now she's the most annoying person in Three Pines (possibly in Canada). I am surprised at just how different this book is from the rest of the series. It rambles, the story is far-fetched, the ending abrupt and unbelievable, and the last page too sentimental...eh. I really hope I am just as surprised with how wonderfully Louise Penny turns it all around in book #11!

5 stars!

Not Ms. Penny’s best, but if you like the inhabitants of Three Pines it’s still worth a read. I was a bit disappointed, especially considering how good book #9 was, though.

Inspector Gamache and company were wonderful as usual, but the talk of painting and the art world got a little boring for me. Still a 4 though
