I spent this whole book thinking, “man, I miss them hunting down a murderer.” WELL I TAKE IT ALL BACK. If you read the series, you’ll know why.
There are a lot of good parts to it — an absent main character, for example — but the book really falls apart at the end. It's as if she made it to the end, wasn't happy with where it had gone, and just crumpled the whole thing up and threw it into the trash. The events at the end seem arbitrary and tacked on.

Woah, wasn't expecting any of that!! Still loving Three Pines
This was one of the worst books in the series so far. The characters lacked a plot (and murder) for the majority of the book, and then in the last bit a bunch of stuff happens. I was so disinterested by the time I got to the end that it lacked the force it should have had. If you’re a Gamache fan, I would skim this one.
I loved that this focused so mich on the core Three Pines characters but the ending was heartbreaking.
Louise Penny is my book candy. This particular story was every much as intriguing as the rest. I thought the ending was rushed, and the character motivations weren’t as strong as I’ve come to expect, but the rest of the story elements were solid and enjoyable.
I think just because I find Clara a bit of an annoying character this wasn't my favorite in the series.
