The entire premise of the mystery was a snooze-fest. My mind kept wandering as I listened, really only enjoying the voice of Ralph Cosham. But the last 10 minutes of the book were heartfelt (I even gasped in shock) and nearly worth the listening to the rest.

Peter hasn't come home. Retired inspector Gamache and his trusty cohort go look for him.

Just when you think Louise Penny can’t possibly make it interesting, she changes the formula for the mystery reader. The series just keeps getting better and better.

It's always a comfort to read the next installation of the series. This is the first book not centered around a murder mystery. Gamache has officially retired from the Surete and is living peacefully in Three Pines with his wife. Clara comes to Gamache with a request for help in finding Peter, who has not returned after a year away.

In this book, we travel with Gamache and fellow Three Pines residents to Scotland and many parts of Canada. We learn about how artists find inspiration

Solid installment with important character development but not my favorite.

My first review of the new decade, and I’m so glad it was this book. This series has become one of my absolute favorites, and this novel was another fantastic addition, if a little sad. It was certainly a bittersweet ending, especially if you take into account that this was the last book narrated by Ralph Cosham, who has absolutely brought these stories to life for me. The greatest compliment I can give to a narrator is that I prefer to listen than read, and that was certainly true for these past 10 books. May he rest in peace.
