My first Fiona Barton book. Quite a page turner for me! This was a good mystery that kept me interested without having a huge twist.
The book starts in the present, when Jean becomes the widow then goes back and forth between events leading up to her husband’s accidental death and present. You’ll get to learn a lot about the investigation and you’ll be introduced to a go getter journalist, Kate, who won’t give up on the story.
Jean (AKA Jeanie) was “the widow” and she was an interesting character indeed. Not sure even now what I think of her.
Pick this one up if you like a mystery. You’ll enjoy it.

Egads. Is this guy a killer, a killer of children? Jeanie has done the stand by your man, or maybe has Stockholm syndrome. Glen is some kind of messed up. He likes adults to look like kids and seriously, this guy has to be a pedifile. Gag! he is a porn addict, and main suspect when a little girl goes missing.
Is Jeanie as crazy as Glen? These folks were lacking in intelligence and the police were lost as ducks in a hail storm. That was just not so good. The mystery was easy to solve, and over all it just turned out to be ok.
My copy came from Net Galley in exchange for my honest review and nothing more.

Really 3.5 stars
Disturbing, but not in the same way as some of the books it's being compared to. But there were still enough twists to make my jaw drop on occasion.

Somewhat of an interesting whodunnit, but I found all of the characters annoying and the ending, when finally resolved, was unsatisfying.
I'm realizing I don't love these kind of mysteries and thrillers. This book and these characters just really didn't do much for me.
Lucky Day book.
Lucky Day book.
Books like this that feature pedophiles and two year olds should come with trigger warnings. Do not recommend.
I didn’t hate this book. It was slow af and I hate that justice wasn’t served 💔
