I kept seeing great things about this book, but it wasn't for me. I'm not big on relationship drama with lots of arguing or hot-and-cold hero behavior. Since the two of them finally have a kind of accord at the end of this book (I wouldn't even say it qualifies as HFN) maybe the next in the series would bode better as a romance.
I did enjoy Armentrout's Obsession, which is related to this series. In that one the hero is an Arum, who are the bad guys in this one.

I solidly enjoyed it for the ridiculous angsty fluff that it is. The second book is already on my Kindle.. I'd recommend it to certain friends knowing that they get a kick out if the same stories I do (friends to lovers trope is my jam!), but I struggle to say it was an objectively good book. Writing in the early chapters is clunky and we get a lot of the main character drooling over hot tsundere boy while also being a "strong independent woman" type of damsel. But there is snark and sass and UST and sometimes that's all you need.

This feels like something I would have read on Wattpad as a middle schooler. The FMC is pathetic (I think they were aiming for damsel in distress but even damsels should have some redeeming qualities and things to offer the world), the MMC is atrocious, and the writing is rough. DNF because I would rather pluck the eyeballs from my skull than suffer through another dialogue between these MCs.
I’ve read a few other books by Armentrout and honestly enjoyed them (from blood and ash series was pretty good). Even then I had problems with writing and plot, but was able to overlook them because other aspects kept me drawn in. This was not the case here— and I am disappointed.
Gave it two stars for effort.

This book started out so odd, the setting and writing was just…Erie? It was very unique to me even though it’s kind of a fanfic of Twilight. I love anything about aliens so this was really good to me, there was a good slow pace and build up for the romance as well.
2.5 stars
This book was obviously trashy, and I laughed because it was funny. The whole books obviously has every YA trope that I don't like, but it was still funny. The only reason I finished it is becuase the main character was nice, and could have gone place. But guess what? she is a stubborn headstrong woman, so she makes some dumb decisions. But this books was still entertaining.
Will I finish this series? maybe.
