4.5 ⭐️

one of the slowest burns i’ve read and it was so worth it. Also one of the my most favorite reads this year. A comfort read that I could go back to rr again and again because some scenes are so special here.

diana is such an amazing mom to the kids. She has always protected them and will do anything for josh and lou. not a single scene where i didn’t love an interaction with all of these characters together. dallas is one of my most favorite mmcs now. I love a good protective grumpy but soft inside dilf. sometimes a babygirl is a forty yr old man! josh and lou made the experience of the book so much better they are so cute and funny.

I love dianadallas joshlou soo much can’t express it enough but they are my family now

I liked it, then I had mixed feelings as I kept reading, and then I actively did not like it by the ending.

Mariana Zapata is a problematic author and it is evident in her works.

This story follows a woman who has guardianship over her two young nephews following her brother's death. They move to a new neighborhood and she is intrigued by the shy, elusive, broody, handsome stranger who lives across the street. There was heart and the story was fairly believable. The reality of being Hispanic in the US is explored in an honest way that didn't feel forced. The slow burn was slow and I loved it. There were a lot of elements I really enjoyed.

However.

The red flags started with glorifying police officers/LEOs/military. It ended with a sexist outlook of the FMC being nagged by three overprotective "males" (talking about her teenage nephew and partner) and
how Dallas "somehow talked me into getting pregnant"

After looking into Mariana Zapata and seeing how sexism, racism, transphobia, and xenophobia are laced into her various works, and that she has not taken accountability, and that she blocks people who call her out, well. You see the work in a different light.

The sex is also SUPER cringe. We get quotes like:

"...another inch, and another inch and another, pushing through my wet muscles that were protesting his thickness, protesting him period."

"
Dallas
pulled that thick organ out, slowly and rolled his hips forward, stuffing me one more time."

"
Dallas
shoved that thick girth deep.."

"Sticky and wet. I loved it."

I only read this cause it was recommended if I liked chenford from the rookie. It wasn’t just like them, but it was kind of similar. I was lowkey bored for the first half of the book but I loved the ending and Dallas and Diana were cute together. Also it took me an incredibly long time to read
