I remember dropping this and coming back to it after I read her other book, but I loved it!!!!!
It's such a long book but all her books are and it was amazing I ate every single bit up, it's something to do with small town romance books I swear something is in them.
Anyway I remember when I used to just sit down and read like 700 pages in one day, and that's what I did for this and her other book but bro it never felt like that long, it genuinely felt like you weren't reading a lot

I loved this ❤️

I recommend reading The Wall of Winnipeg and Me and Kulti before this one because it made the reading experience so much better.

The beginning definitely moved slower for me… I wasn’t really invested until 50% in, but the second half was so good I had to give the book 4 stars. Josh and Louis were adorable and Miss Pearl was funny and Dallas was perfect and every character felt well developed.

My issue is that for most of the book instead of just saying “Dallas” she would say something like “the voice that could only belong to the man who lived across the street” or instead of saying “Louis” she would say “the little light of my life and reason for existing”. Maybe this is picky of me but I was like… just use their names? It wouldn’t have bothered me if it didn’t happen so much and hadn’t been so repetitive. Like we know that Diana loved Louis and that Dallas lived across the street she didn’t need to keep saying it. Idk

this may as well be a 5 ⭐ too because I ALSO CAN'T STOP THINKING ABOUT THEM

4.75 ⭐i can’t remember the last time i stayed up to finish a book but it was like 3:30am when i was done and all i felt like doing was running outside to scream from the top of my lungs how much i loved this book

everything about it was so BEAUTIFUL

This was my first Mariana Zapata book and I’m kinda disappointed I started out with this one.. I heard M.Z books were slow burn but this just felt slow to me.

Half way through the book, I started to skim through the pages and would only read the dialogue. Some parts weren’t necessary to me (the narrating) between each dialogue and I’d catch myself forgetting what the previous dialogue was.

Unpopular opinion but I just didn’t feel the connection or romance between Diana and Dallas. I feel like some authors try to force romance in books but there’s some that doesn’t need the romance and this was one of them imo. Just because I didn’t feel like I knew Dallas as much as I wanted to. I felt like we got too much of Diana’s day to day life, it started getting repetitive to me. I also didn’t connect with the characters but loved the two boys! I thought it was really sweet of her to take in her nephews as if they were her own.

I liked the book but I didn’t love it. I want to give this author another try but probably not for awhile

I really like how MZ's books just ever so subtly tie together...
This one isn't different from any other, really, and has pretty low stakes and angst compared to some of her other books, but what can I say...I just get sucked into her books for some reason and I really like the dynamics and the slow burns and the family stuff and she does it in a way that works for me (most authors can't sell me on kids and MZ can).

Age gap, single mom, slow burn, hilarious FMC, interracial relationship….need I say more? loved this so much!
