Another buddy read with the wonderful Chloe.
Loved the concept of the flip-book - really unique and I've never come across it before. The plot and themes were good and I enjoyed the dual pov. I do think that it had a lot more potential though. I think it would've benefitted from being slightly longer, delving more into Dylan and his family, exploring his psychology and theirs a bit more, because it is very interesting, but I felt as if it was brushed over. The last 3/4 of the book gave me whiplash (sometimes good), but Holly's character seemed inconsistent during these parts. I do think she was the weaker of the 2, in terms of character development. She just seemed like the default fmc without much individuality. I also could've done without the epilogue. I think it validated Dylan's family in a way I don't think they deserved, making them seem more reasonable than they should.
Overall, I got what I wanted out of it. I finished it in one sitting and it has definitely got me out of my reading slump. But I wouldn't recommend if you want something intellectually stimulating or insightful (a missed opportunity, because this book really could have been).

This story is one I've never read before. The storyline, the way the author told the story, it is all amazing.
I've never been in the mind of a prepper, never met one, never really thought about them. But to read part of this story from that pov was very interesting! It made me think about their beliefs etc.
If you want a quick dystopian read, this book is definitely for you!! Also the flip-book part was once again so fun!

I liked the unique format of this book, allowing the reader to choose how to experience the story through different points of view. However, beyond that, the book was just okay for me. While the premise had potential, I didn’t find myself fully engaged with the story or the characters.

Okay so basically this is a shit book. When I saw what it was about and the dual POV by turning the book I was so curious and so excited to read this. But overall the dual POV sucked and it was just not well explored.
Because yeah, I’m sorry but one would think that having 2 POVS means that different POVS give you different informations right? Well not in this book. Except maybe the first one where you read Dylan’s POV after having read Hollys first part. But actually not really because you know by reading the premise that he is a doomsday prepper anyways. So like I guess we get his POV and see his anxiety and whatnot but really it’s not all that interesting.
Then if we go to the characters they kinda all suck. Especially Holly. She just doesn’t do it for me. I just think she’s stupid. Like I get it you love your boyfriend. But one would think that after almost dying because of him you would leave him?? One would think that if he told you he was a doomsday prepper you would potentially leave him??? Like I get it because the moral of the book is that love takes over or whatever. But like did love take over your intelligence?? Also what pissed me off is this random moment where she says that Dylan is a red flag bc his parents don’t know about her. Girl you’ve been dating for 4 months and you’re 20 years old. It’s not that deep. Also the too loving family just didn’t do it for me. Idk but talking about your daughter and her boyfriend having sex was just weird and also the random sex scenes that added nothing to the plot annoyed me.
I also saw some editing errors.
I could go on and on but the last thing I’ll mention is that never ending epilogue. Jesus Christ. And shocker it’s an asteroid killing everyone and Dylan choosing love and not survival. Anyways this book had great potential but the execution was just not it at all.
