Scott has died before. When he is brought back to life, he has a side effect. He can see ghosts. He usually ignores them until he sees a bride in a bloody wedding gown. He tries to help her find out what happened and his life is permanently altered.
Opinion
I was a huge fan of the show Ghost Whisperer and still love the paranormal. This book certainly called to me. I completely enjoyed this story as it told about Scott and Zelda. Some of the parts of Zelda's story were quite a shock. This is definitely a great romantic suspense book.

Oh my goodness, I fell in love with with Scott and Zelda They have so many challenges to go through to find the love that they know is there for them. The plot is so well written and smooth that I didn't want to stop reading. I kept going just one more chapter and found I couldn't put my kindle down. The characters feel real. The emotion and personality can take you up and down like a hurricane in Florida. It's a beautiful love story with a bit of murder, mystery, romance, mental illness, a bit of comedy and a touch of ghosts. I'm excited to see there are two more books in the series. Scott and Zelda may just be my new favorite romance pairing of the year. This is a true paranormal that you just cannot miss.

This is the second book I have read by this author. Very different from the first but still amazing!! A man who can see ghosts…..and a ghost who doesn’t remember her past, not even her name. I love that the geekiness shows through as he calls her Zelda, as she didn’t like getting called ghost bride.. They have so many hurdles to finding out who this woman is, and why she can’t remember anything. Scott was a very endearing character as he struggled to come to terms with his “gift”.

Scott is a teenager and a bit of a recluse, he is jaded and sarcastic and pushes people away and keeps his own council, he doesn’t get along with his parents, or at least he doesn’t now, not since he died and was brought back, but the only problem with that is that now he can see the dead when nobody else can and that is why he is how he is. She is a ghost, she is wearing a wedding dress covered in blood and has no memories of who she is or what has happened, apart from that she is dead and nobody can see her, that is until she locks eyes with someone at a funeral and that all changes.

I have woken up in a dark place with fog swirling around my feet, I can’t feel anything and I can’t see anybody else around me, but I’m shivering and can feel a cold wind swirling around me, but as I start to panic, I can hear voices, someone sobbing and others trying to comfort them, but when I try to make contact, they can’t hear me. Scott is at the funeral of his Uncle, they are gathered around the grave while the ceremony is conducted, he is there for his Aunt and nobody else, but the dead are all around him and trying to get his attention, so far he has managed to ignore them all, if not, then they will swarm him and ask for his help, that is until one female ghost catches his attention, she is wearing a bloody wedding dress and for some reason he can’t look away and she notices and looks relieved. After he has finished avoiding his parents, he goes over to talk to her, and albeit he is short with her, she doesn’t back off and he is surprised to find that he invites her back to his house so he can help her.

Why did I have to find the one sarcastic guy in the world who can see me, even worse, I’m slightly attracted to him, as I ask him question and he does in return, how little memories I have are worrying and I don’t know what to do, but as Scott seems to be my only ally and we seem to get on well, I’ll take a chance. I get annoyed with Scott when he keeps calling me Ghost Bride, so I ask him to give me a different name and one he likes, he comes up with Zelda, apparently a character from a video game, but I like it, so that is one thing, as he suggests getting the laptop out to start on the research, I realise that I am happy that he will help me when nobody else can. Scott meanwhile is realising that this ghost is attractive, funny and can give the sarcasm as much as he can, so he decides that helping her could be fun, until she leaves, but still he cannot stop himself from noticing how attractive she is and how even though he knows she is dead, he still can’t ignore the fact that she makes him feel alive again.

Will Scott and Zelda be able to figure out who she is and how she died and how will this affect them both of the mystery can be solved? This is a romance with a very paranormal twist, with a mystery you will want to solve as well.

Peaceful Slumber
By Nikki Lynn Barrett
5 stars

I have read a few books by this author now but this is the first of this type of story that I have read and I really enjoyed it. I love it when authors are able to write different genres and Nikki Lynn Barrett certainly can. It still had her lovely writing style which I have come to enjoy from her other books but with a paranormal twist. I thought that the storyline was unique and kept my interest throughout. I loved all the twists and turns and I liked that I couldn’t predict what was going to happen. There was a little bit of humour throughout the book that made me laugh, especially from Scott towards the ghosts that he could see. I wasn’t too sure about Scott at the beginning of the story but I grew to like him – he was as the blurb says sarcastic and jaded!! I liked the weird relationship that formed between him and Zelda.
Overall another brilliant book from Nikki Lynn Barrett - it is well written with beautiful descriptive writing and a joy to read. I look forward, as always, to whatever she releases next.

Suspenseful paranormal romance
This was an unexpected find. I did not expect the twists and turns that the story threw my way. The paranormal aspect was brilliantly intertwined with the mystery and romance. I found myself caught up in the drama and intrigue of Zelda’s past and Scott’s struggle with his gift. Thoroughly enjoyed this terrific start to the series and I can’t wait to dive into book 2.

I’m not normally a paranormal genre fan, but the writing in this story had me hooked. I’ve never read a book written by this author before, however she really carried me on a ride of emotions with her writing. These characters are very interesting, the writing is phenomenal allowing the plot to flow easy. All things that I love in a book. I loved the paranormal aspect of this story as it’s not something I normally seek out. However, this one was intertwined with a mystery and a love story, so it kept me thoroughly intrigued with the ending. I was on the edge of my seat at certain points of this book and was not disappointed with the ending. I highly recommend you pick up this book and read it.

This is my first book by the author and for me it was the best book I have read in a while. She gives awesome descriptions so you can have the perfect picture of the scene. The way she moves between the characters is refreshing and also very believable like this could be happening around us and we judt do not know.
The main characters in the story are Scott and Zelda. Scott has an amazing gift (even though he does not think so). He can see ghosts. He had a life event where he was “dead for a few minutes”. Since then he sees ghosts everywhere. He is bothered by this because the ghosts are lost and found out he can see them. So naturally they want his help. He decides who he helps and who he does not want to help. He just happened to be at his Uncle’s funeral. That is where Zelda enters. She has found herself in her wedding gown with blood stains. No one can see her or hear her except Scott. She is in shock trying to figure out what is happening. Zelda finds Scott and then the story begins.

Nikki Lynn Barrett does a wonderful job of intertwining the Scott and Zelda’s story. There is a missing element that she leaves you wanting more. I cannot wait to see what is in store for our characters.

Peaceful Slumber (Soul Connection Book 1) by Nikki Lynn Barrett is the first book in her Soul Connection series. I enjoyed her book as much as I have enjoyed the rest of her books. I think this one just might be my favorite. Her writing style just pulls me in from the first word and keeps me engaged until the end. Her attention to details make me feel as if I am right there in the book with the characters. Her characters are both lovable and connectable. They will take you on an emotional roller coaster ride that you won't want to get off. Scott and Zelda will take us on a paranormal journey that you won't be able to put down. Something unexpected happens to Scott that will change him forever, he dies for ten minutes and when he wakes up he can see ghosts. For years he tries to ignore them until his uncle passes and he sees her at his funeral. She is wearing a blood stained wedding dress and he just can't keep his eyes off her. Zelda has no memory of who she is or where she is from. She can't even remember how she died. She is confused on why he is the only one that can see her. From here they go on a journey together to find out who she is and how she died. The more time the more they start having feelings for each other. But how could he fall for a ghost? Is it even possible? I loved these characters. They have such chemistry and they just belong together. I kept hoping that they would find a way to be together and have a happy ending. These are two strong characters that really just make this story. They both have gone through so much that you have to feel compassion for them. They make you want to read their story just to see if they will have a happy ending. I highly suggest this book, I know you will want to see what happens to them and if they can find a happy ending.
