I’m very very impressed. I was hesitant to start this because I’ve never read a book that is exclusively mystery. But wow. This was perfect. I cried reading the last line. It was the ideal combination of mystery, angst, betrayal, smart women, and secrets. The writing and the pace made it all the more special. Definitely reading more [a:Laura Dave|2672|Laura Dave|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1637088273p2/2672.jpg].
I loved how the author showed us how their relationship came to be. How normal and almost boring Owen and Hannah seemed to be and still their relationship and their little moments seemed almost magical. I really really loved that. Normal feelings and normal people that together are extraordinary.
For a while there I was pretty mad because I thought they were gonna end up together but I loved how the story played out in the end. I absolutely loved how Hannah didn’t need a man by the beginning of the book and she didn’t need a man by the end. I loved her story. Her normal but fascinating story. Her unproblematic life that was almost defined by these big hardships she had to face. How it seemed she and Owen were made for each other but they would’ve been fine on their own too.
All the stars for this masterpiece

Entertaining read, somewhat implausible. Enjoyed the burgeoning relationship between the main character and her step-daughter. Forgettable
So so good, I just wanted to keep reading to find out what happened. The ending was kind of heartbreaking, definitely not how I was hoping it would turn out in some aspects, but great in others. It just left me wondering what the rest of their lives would look like. Would Owen/Ethan ever come back permanently? Does he keep tabs on Hannah and Bailey from afar? Do he and Hannah ever get to be together again? The thought of them not is so crushing. Overall though, great story line. I loved trying to solve the mystery right along with Hannah and Bailey.

Finished at 11:52pm on New Year’s Eve. Fuck. What a devastating but amazing story. I could cry for an hour or two. Amazing. Sheesh.
The writing isn’t great at some points, a bit repetitive. But the vibes were there. And I had a great time.

This one took me a while to get through. The premise was interesting, even if it wasn't super original, but the development was slooooow! There was way too much unnecessary exposition. I also found Hannah (the FMC) to be a little too "perfect" in her stepmothering. The plot twist was there, but wasn't super satisfying. It was mostly an "oh, that's what happened" moment. Not sure if I'll come back to Laura Dave's books.
I didn’t realize I chose the audio version. I have the hard copy and wanted to make sure my graph reflected what I did properly.

Pretty far-fetched but if I suspend my disbelief, it was great!
