This was a really lovely book; the characters were well written, the reveal made sense and had a decent amount of foreshadowing

Not my favourite Agatha Christie mystery, but a good one nonetheless. The cast of characters here feels a little sparse, and although I was certain who the murderer was (one of the rare times I've been correct) Christie still managed to make the motive and method behind the murder so wonderfully intricate, meaning that this was still a rewarding reveal for me in the end.

What struck me most about this one is that there are some moments of actual really beautiful prose - Agatha had such an artful way of making a lot of her characters feel so human in just a few sentences, and Elinor is a great example of that. The setting and events of the novel are also quintessentially charming - a small village, a grand house, fish paste sandwiches, tea etc. It's all very polite and English, which makes the rather gruesome murder at the heart of the mystery all the more interesting and a jolly good puzzle.
