Five things about The Eyre Affair by Jasper Fforde 📚📚📚📚
1. This was mostly fun. I kept losing interest though and leaving it to sit unread for days at a time. It just never fully engaged me.
2. It reminded me a lot of Daniel O’Malley’s series that starts with The Rook which I really enjoy. In fact, I enjoy it a lot more than I enjoyed this.
3. This was a lot. A lot going on. A lot to follow. A lot to learn.
4. It was funny and harrowing and mysterious.
5. On paper, I should have loved this. But I just found it hard to engage with. Sometimes books and readers just don’t click. There’s no fault to be had…it’s just not a match.

I really wanted to like it more than I did and I loved the concept. I found the main world we’re thrown into very confusing and that kept pulling me out of the story most of the time. I did enjoy the last 100 pages or so a lot more and there was some very clever wording and goings-on.
This was a great start to a series. The story reads quickly, but gives the right amount of detail for those readers that may not be familiar with the literature discussed in the novel. The characters are likeable as well as being flawed human beings just as we are.
Wonderful book for all literary nerds like me. Hilarious, yet brilliant!
A moderately enjoyable book. I'm on the fence as to whether I will read another book in this series.
Good, but I’m not sure I want to read more of this series
