i just wish some books would cut out the 'falling in love' part at the end. Why not just have her summon a hot demon, murder her rapist together, and have hot sex afterward. end of story. no third-act break up. no nothing

* Summary: Joy summons demon Malachai to get revenge on her rapist - and the two find themselves deeply (and healing-ly) drawn to each other.

* Stats: Fantasy CR, M/F (pansexual MMC/bisexual FMC), open door, stand alone.

* Notes: I really enjoyed this one. The writing is a little chaotic but it feels intentional and works for the story. I loved having an FMC who is deeply affected by an assault and struggling to navigate life afterwards - and (also) angry AF about it. I feel like the combination is pretty rare and it felt very honest and true to me. I also really liked the sweetness and gentleness in the relationship between the MCs - but I felt like the FMC is much more developed (especially in backstory) and I was missing much more about the MMC’s history (or not understanding what there was well enough). I saw a few places where the book was listed as femdom and I don’t really feel like that’s right - the sex scenes are definitely led by the FMC and the MMC tends to defer to her, but it’s not really done in a way that felt like a power exchange kink sort of thing. I wish the book was a bit longer as it did feel a tiny bit rushed, but I’ll certainly be reading more from the author.
